Gemma Holdman Lesson Plan Assignment #2 ESE 6345-0398 class with a bell ringer. When you enter our classroom, you will take your seats and begin quietly working on the bell ringer activity that Ive posted on the board. Does anyone have any questions? Great! a. Syllabus: Now we are going to briefly discuss the class syllabus. Could the students whose desk has a green sticker please come and get the syllabuses for their group. i. The syllabus contains important information for my class. Lets look over this together so we understand its components. At the top of the page it has my contact information (name, telephone number, e-mail address), the course website URL, followed by the overall objectives of this course, course assignments, grading scale, general course policies, attendance and make- up policies, and tentative calendar. If there are any changes to the calendar, I will update you immediately. Our course website also has the syllabus if you misplace your hard copy. ii. Absence Policy: When you are absent in my class, it is one of your group members responsibility to place any handouts/worksheets in your folder. All of you will have a folder with your names on it. When you return, please check your folder as you enter our classroom. You can also go online to our class website, as I update it daily with any important information and assignments. iii. So, to review, could someone please tell me what the appropriate procedures are when entering our class each day? Yes, <enter student name here>, very good! You will check your folders if absent, take your seat, and begin quietly working on the bell ringer I put on the projector. iv. Group work: As you can see, Ive set up your desks in sets of four. Each desk has a sticker on it red, blue, green, or yellow. Please do not remove these as we will use them as a key to assign different student roles each class period. Group work is going to be a big part of our daily routines and every couple weeks if I will change your groups so everyone gets the opportunity to work with one another. The new seating charts will be on the projector as that days bell ringer. 1. For an additional note, on test days, I will arrange all desks in straight rows to give each student plenty of personal space. 2. Quick scan: Does everyone understand how group work and desk arrangements work in our class? Please give me a thumbs up for yes or a thumbs down for no. If I receive several nos, I will review the group work structures, ensuring that students have understood. v. Bathroom: Who here uses the bathroom? <I laugh!> Yes, every now and then we all need to use it! School policies we must follow include only one girl and one boy are allowed to use the restroom at a time and no one can go in the first or last 10 minutes of class. Other than that, how should we set up our bathroom procedures? I have thought up a few ideas: punch cards you hold onto, a paddle or object representing our pass (one for girls and one for boys; once its off the hook, you must wait), clipboard beside the door with date and check out, check in times. Id like you to decide which youd prefer. Please raise your hand if youd like punch cards? Paddle/object pass? Clipboard? Ok, wonderful. We will use <insert class choice here>. If our decision interrupts class too often and is abused, we will have to adjust.

Gemma Holdman Lesson Plan Assignment #2 ESE 6345-0398 3. Id like you to develop and write down at least 3 examples for each word. b. I will walk around the room observing the different groups. Timer buzzes. Could I please have my yellow sticker students come to the board and add a couple of their groups examples. i. We will discuss the different examples provided by the groups, tying them in to the already discussed procedures, and clarify anything that students are not clear about. ii. So from the various examples we have provided, I would sum up that respecting each other and our belongings, being responsible by working hard and helping one another will lead to successful results in this course. I have high expectations for all of you. Together we will do our best to reach our goals. Thank you for your hard work on this. iii. Does anyone have any questions or concerns about what weve covered thus far today? 4. If the data I attain shows that students are having difficulties, I will adjust my lessons slightly to include further review and practice to ensure that all students understand.
