Answering Part B

1. To include:

• Start by challenging the statement: use evidence from the sources in


"quotations" as well as your own knowledge.
• Support the statement using evidence from the sources and your own
knowledge.
• Reach and explain a clear conclusion. Don't 'sit on the fence'. Discuss both
sides of the argument, but then reach a clear judgement either way. Use the
sources and your own knowledge to reach this judgement.
• Make sure you use all of the sources. At the end, read through the answer and
find the letters of the sources that you have used (e.g. A,B,C,D all included in
the answer).
• Show that you understand the significance of historical issues in their context:
"This was important/significant/influential at the time because..."
• Evaluate the limitations of the sources - identify the weaknesses and the gaps
left by the sources, and also say what needs to be added to the source to
complete it.

2. Other:
• Clear structure.
• Accurate terminology.
• Spelling, punctuation and grammar.
• Accurate contextual knowledge.
• Focus on question - don't drift to irrelevant aspects.
