Instructional Objective(s) Criteria: Students will be able to correctly identify different ways to be kind to others as well as understanding the difference between doing nice things to others and doing mean things. 3. Assessment(s) of the Objectives: I will pre-assess the students by asking what something is that they can do nicely for others and what is something mean that you arent suppose to do to others and I will record their answers. For my during assessment, I will be asking if they remember a time when they were nice and took turns while playing with others. For my post assessment, during the small group activity, the students will have to take turns correctly identifying ways that they can be helpful or nice to others. They will have to chose between nice, helpful actions and not nice, unhelpful actions and put them in the correct category. 4. Materials/Resources: 1. Book: Me Too! by Mercer Mayer 2. Copy of Song, If You Want To Be a Friend 3. 25 copies of worksheet of pictures to cut out 4. 25 copies of Nice or Not Nice Chart for pictures to be glued to 5. Scissors 6. Glue Stick 7. Pencils

5. Prerequisites (Prior Knowledge): Students will need to know the difference between being nice and not being nice. To complete the small group activities, students will need to know how to cut and use a glue stick. 6. Procedures: During the Circle Read Aloud: 1. Students will stay on the carpet after the morning announcements. 2. We will then go over the vocabulary words for the week using the SMART board. 3. I will then introduce the book. 4. Then I will read Me Too! by Mercer Mayer 5. After the story, we will talk a little about the book and different ways we can be kind to others. 6. We will then sing If You Want to be a Friend 7. After the song, I will dismiss the students to center time and begin to call small groups up one by one to do the small group activity. Small Group Activity: 1. One group at a time will be called to the main table. 2. We will talk about the story as I introduce the activity. 3. Students will be given a pair of scissors, a glue stick, and our activity pictures that they will cut and paste on the Nice or Not Nice chart. (I will tell the students what the actions of each picture is so that there isnt any confusion) 4. Once the student is finished cutting out their pictures, I will hand them the Nice or Not Nice chart to paste the pictures under the correct category. 5. Once the student finished their own chart, they will be dismissed to centers. 6. After every student in the group finishes their chart, I will call the next group up to do the lesson and so on. 7. Accommodations: If I see a need for a student who does not understand the assignment, I will take my time to work with them individually once their group is finished. Since there are a few students in my class with IEPs, I will be able to adjust to their needs as seen fit. 8. References: Mayer, Mercer. Me Too! Racine: Western Publishing Company, Inc., 1983.
