Lesson

Four Thank you letters were written during lesson four. Students were engaged in the beginning of this lesson because we read the book Thank You, Mr. Falker by Patricia Polacco. Before the lesson, I decided that this would be a good book for the students because not only does it it explain why the young girl wanted to thank him but it also was a book that showed students what it feels like to be bullied. This book about a girl that was tormented because she could not read and her teacher Mr. Falker helped her. Students were actively involved when helping me write a thank you letter on the SMART Board to model to them what they would be doing during the lesson. I was able to connect this lesson the lives of my students because I allowed them to write a thank you letter to anyone of their choice. Students really enjoyed this and some thought very hard about whom they would write too. At the conclusion of the lesson students were engaged again by having the opportunity to share their thank you letter with class. I was impressed to see how many students wanted to share.
