What is your definition of Effective Mentoring? Effective mentoring is providing all the tools necessary to perform tasks, review these skills, and give plenty of opportunities to apply those skills.

What are the characteristics of an effective mentor? Characteristics include being willing to teach and share skills, being able to express when something has been done well and when things are done wrong, and using that as an opportunity to learn from.

What are your characteristics of a good mentee? Characteristics include willingness and eagerness to learn, self motivation, and being able to apply skills acquired to problem solve.

Who have been your mentors? There have been many including therapists, physicists, fellow dosimetrists, and MDs, both attending and residents.

What do you expect from your mentee? I expect the mentee to be a go-getter and ask a lot of questions but attempt to work through things on their own also. Also to take notes to refer back to, there is a lot of information coming in very fast, it is a good habit to write things down to have a reference. 1. Steber J. Personal Communication.
