An Imprint of Bamboo Telegraph

EDITORs NOTE
This years season of IASAS Track and Field was over as soon as it began, speeding by in a series of jumps, sprints, and throws. The IASAS Track and Field Bulletin 2013 is an overview of distances, times and records broken and set throughout the event, and will be the means by which we recognize the athletes who worked so hard to achieve them. However, our main goal is to publish this bulletin as a testimony to the spirit, focus and determination of each and every team and participant, regardless of placing or ranks. With every photograph, interview and highlight, we hope that the admirable display of sportsmanship and athleticism we witnessed can live on beyond these past three eventful days and serve as inspiration for both current and future athletes. It was an honor hosting IASAS Track and Field 2013. To all athletes, captains, coaches, and everyone who was involved one way or another, congratulations on a brilliant, successful season! This bulletin has also crossed its finish line, and we hope that you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

Captains: Amy Mes Andres Limcaoco

What is your team cheer or theme song?

Steven Dodd Jose Unso

What expectations do you have for your team?

Coaches:

How do you bond as a team?

Mes: We have team bonding sessions every monday first session. And people say that track and field isnt a team sport, but it is. Its just [that] we all have individual events...We definitely bond during our track meets and also du during training by helping and correcting [one] another. Limcaoco: On Mondays we [also] have the whole first hour dedicated to team bonding exercises with a little workout worked into it. Theres a lot of time to bond with your teammates either at practice or during the meets since they last so long.
Whats your biggest strength as a team?

Mes: Each event has a different set of strengths, but more importantly, we are a family! Limcaoco: We have great sprinters.

COACHES INTERVIEWS

Mes: No, but we have our Bearcat cheers! Limcaoco: We dont have one.

Dodd: Boys will win, girls [will place] fourth. Unso: The boys are looking good, and the girls will get some personal bests.
What is your training regime?

CAPTAINS INTERVIEWS

Dodd: Plyometrics - where you use your bodyweight and gravity. Unso: Foundation, the basics, quality runs. I ran with the athletes about 90% of the time.
What is your idea of an ideal athlete?

Dodd: Someone who is willing to work harder than I want to push them. Unso: They need to have the right body structure, as well as the right attitude. I need someone who is determined and confident.

Amanda Giles
Matthew Nagy

Captains:

Chris Bell Ugo Costessi

What expectations do you have for your team?

Coaches:

How do you bond as a team?

Nagy: Honestly, just cheering for each other because you see how hard theyre working thats why you want to cheer them on. Giles: I think our team bonds when were cheering for our athletes in the races, since we all come together and support them.
Whats your biggest strength as a team?

Nagy: Weve got a lot of depth [and] a ton of young participants. Theyll bring a lot more every year and theyre already doing so well. Giles: I think we have a really strong overall team this year and even in the events were not winning, were still having several people place.

COACHES INTERVIEWS

Nagy: Weve got our Bangkok cheers where we [spell out Bangkok]. We also have drums that we play while we chant ISB over and over again. Giles: We dont really have one!

Bell: Im expecting that they perform at their peak and come together to support each other, be great sportsmen, congratulate people, help those who need help, and thats for any team, not just our team. Costessi: Two gold medals and at least three in finals.
What is your training regime?

Eventually, our friendships grew outside of track and during school.
Whats your biggest strength as a team?

COACHES INTERVIEWS

What is your team cheer or theme song?

Ba Baker: Obviously, I hope our team will win both meets. Itll be between ISM boys and SAS boys, and SAS girls and ISB girls. Thats what itll come down to, Im pretty sure. OConnor: I hope everybody OConno will give their seasons best performance and will go out and compete.t
What is your training regime?

Milne: Middle distance runners and good looks. Juliano: Our teams biggest strength is probably picking ourselves back up after failure and keeping our heads up.

CAPTAINS INTERVIEWS

Baker: Unfortunately, we struggled with a lot of rain and a lot of different holidays and interruptions. We almost never had three practices in a row, but when we came, we worked really hard, and we started doing morning practices, which shows these kids dedication. OConnor: It was a short season... so we didnt practice as much as we would have liked to. The only way we overcome this is with our kids finding desire and determination during the meets.
What is your idea of an ideal athlete?

Baker: Competitive spirit. They need to be competitive, they need to be willing to work hard, and they need to be committed to the team. OConnor: An ideal athlete is OConno a kid who comes out everyday and gives 100% in practice and is proud of being an Eagle.
