Annotated Bibliography in MLA Style Drew Dutton Anderson, Ronald D. The Role of Families and Faith Communities.

Religion and Spirituality in the Public School Curriculum. 132-133. 2004. Print. Feb 15, 2013. This section of the book argues that ultimately it is the familys or religious affiliation of a child to do the duty of teaching a child religion or getting religion integrated at school. Legally, a teacher or administrator can only be so involved in the religious affairs of a childs life. For this reason, the author deems it necessary for the parent of a child to take action to get the child to learn about his/her faith and belief system. Darden, Edwin C. "Religion in the schools: a flurry of court decisions has only deepened the fog surrounding battles over religion in public schools." Phi Delta Kappan 94.1 (2012): 68+. Gale Biography In Context. Web. 5 Feb. 2013. This author seeks to point out the history of the church v state issues in the public school system. This article will come in handy while writing my paper and talking about the legality of religion in schools. "Do not practice religion in schools." St. Petersburg Times [St. Petersburg, FL] 26 Feb. 2007: 2. Global Issues In Context. Web. 5 Feb. 2013. This person argues that people should not practice or perform any sort of religious activity in school on the basis that we wouldnt want other religions to force us to practice their deeds and what not in the middle of our day. The author goes to an extreme to say that we wouldnt want our children to learn to sacrifice goats; I dont agree with this. It does feel like the author has ruled out the possibility of religion and morals being taught in a historical context. Gunn, T Jeremy. Religion, Identity, and Morality in Public Schools. The Role of Religion in 21st century Public Schools. 51-55. 2009. Print. Feb 15 2013. The author of this chapter in this book claims that religion being in schools has no impact on the morality of the students who are exposed to it. This leads to the discussion that religion in schools really offers no support for a stronger basis of morals. The author points out some famous examples from an era where religion was widely used in schools and how they turned out to be rebels.

Kafer, Krista. Public Schools should teach more about Religion. Religion and Education. 47-48. 2005. Print. Feb 15, 2013. This author of this portion of this book suggests that with religion in their life, a childs learning experience can and probably will be fuller and more meaningful. Many people do not hold this idea and I am glad to find someone who does believe it. This author believes that with the schools, parents and religious groups help, the childs learning experience will become more well rounded and the child will become a more educated student. Mattox, William R. "Bible Classes Should Be Offered in Public Schools." Religion in America. David Haugen and Susan Musser. Detroit: Greenhaven Press, 2010. Opposing Viewpoints. Rpt. from "Teach the Bible? Of Course." USA Today 17 Aug. 2009. Gale Opposing Viewpoints In Context. Web. 4 Feb. 2013. This source argues that the bible has big reasons for being taught in public schools. Not only for moral reasons is this argument made but also for educational purposes. The argument is raised that students who do not understand the bible will not comprehend the many allusions that are made towards the bible in many literary and historical settings. "Ordinary Britons are comfortable with Christianity. Teachers and government aren't, though." Telegraph Online 26 Nov. 2012. Gale Biography In Context. Web. 5 Feb. 2013. I like this article because it shows what most others dont: that schools and teachers are afraid of religion while most students and their parents could care less if it was a subject in school. This article was in regards to all major religions being taught in school together not just one or another. "Put religion in context by teaching its history." USA Today 7 Oct. 2010: 10A. Global Issues In Context. Web. 5 Feb. 2013. This article argues that religion in school is ok as long is it is not taught in a religious context but in a historical cultural context. Im for this view because the morals of each religion are probably being taught together which are basically all the same. "RELIGION IN SCHOOLS." Age [Melbourne, Australia] 23 Oct. 2012: 10. Gale Opposing Viewpoints In Context. Web. 5 Feb. 2013. This is a survey of peoples

reactions to the imp of a special religion class in schools. Overall the responses were negative and none too helpful for my overall argument. Reynolds, Matt. "Schoolhouse divided: controversies over religion in public education are as old as public education itself." Christianity Today Feb. 2012: 49.Gale World History In Context. Web. 5 Feb. 2013. This article claims that separation between church and school arguments date back to the formation of the public school system. It bases its arguments off of a solid source and has many solid statements of its own to back up the arguments made. This source will be good when discussing the history of church and school separation arguments. Schonhardt, Sara. "In Indonesia schools, a larger role for religion; More faith-based courses planned to combat unrest; science classes may be cut." International Herald Tribune 7 Jan. 2013. Global Issues In Context. Web. 5 Feb. 2013. The author of this article was reporting an event in India that is going on where the government is taking out science and social studies classes to implement religion classes due to the recent increase in crimes. Everyone who voted seemed to be unanimously in favor of the change but they were concerned about the change going into effect. This seems like the exact thing I am looking for in my paper. Thomas, R. Murray, The United States of America. Religion in schools: Controversies around the world. 149-150. 2006. Print Feb 15 2013. The author of this book seeks to display both sides of a popular controversy in a historical light. The part that I focused on was how he proposed or how he saw the controversy as solved and that was through the thought of Intelligent design instead of God or Darwinism.
