Present: Hand out hard copies of John Rutters The Lord Bless You and Keep You to students and ask them to follow their music as they listen to three contrasting recordings of the piece. Give basic musical elements to look out for (phrasing, dynamics, tempo, ext.) and ask to notice the elements from other pieces theyve already sung that can be applied to the piece. After hearing playing three contrasting recordings, ask students to discuss by getting in a group of four (preferably SATB) by to their choice of a recording. (10 mins.). Hold group presentations and performances to exemplify each groups choir of musical elements (25 mins.). Discuss as a class which ideas they agree/disagree on and come up with a finalized list of musical elements to mark on scores individually. (15 mins.).
Focusing Question: In what ways do three ensembles approach the piece differently/similarly, and which elements do we want to apply to our version?
Assessment: Formative: o Each student is to write bullet points of musical elements that he/she liked/disliked while listening. o Get in a group of four (preferably SATB). Share individual thoughts and make score markings. o Present and perform a portion of the piece to the class. Summative: o Come up with the finalized musical elements to apply on the piece as a class and mark on the scores individually. o Perform all together with unified markings
Personalize: During discussion, encourage students to describe the music in their own words. Demonstrate how different approaches/interpretations can be acceptable. Among the group of students choices, ask them to determine musical elements of their choice and perform in their own ways. Allow elements not from the recordings to be incorporated if wanted by the students.

Materials: Hard copies of John Rutters The Lord Bless You and Keep You. Computer, speaker, YouTube links to three contrasting recordings, white board, blank sheets of paper. Present and Perform as groups. Perform as a class with unified markings @ the end.
