THE LION KING 3: ROARING RORY’S PRIDE

Sunrise over the Pride Lands. Animals of all types make their way to Pride Rock:

Elephants, giraffes, wildebeest, antelope, hippos.

The Cast (In order of appearance)

Swinging A mystical mandrill; She is the pride's medicine woman and shaman.
Sally She replaced her father – Rafiki. She helps Henry to guard little
“Baboon” Ciara.

Roaring King of the Pride Lands. Rory has grown up and he takes his role in
Rory life much more seriously. He will do anything to preserve the Circle of
”Lion” Life and to keep his daughter Ciara from being hurt.

Stripey Queen of Pride Rock, and Rory's mate. She is dignified and royal,
Shaina she commands respect from the lionesses in her pride.
“Lion”
Ciara Rory's daughter, the Princess and heir to Pride Rock. As a cub, she is
“Lion” even more flighty and irresponsible than Rory was, and yet she has a
sharp wit and a strong will.

Huge Henry An elephant with the "no-worries" attitude has become employed by
“Elephant” Rory as his royal babysitter.

Kovu Cub of Molly, Kovu was banished to the Outlands when Simba
“Lion” regained power after the death of Scar. According to Scar's dying
wish, Molly is committed to train him to avenge his death by killing
Rory - Simba’s heir and retaking Pride Rock.

Molly The mate of Scar during his reign; Her greatest desire is to see Rory
”Lion” dead and herself and Kovu as the rulers of the Pride Lands.

Time and Place

The Present. In Africa.

 The seven characters can simply be played by actors wearing clothing colour

coordinated with a mask that represents the animal he or she is playing. The play

can be performed on traditional stage. No props are required, only costumes.

Background

The Lion King 3: Roaring Rory’s Pride is an adapted version of The Lion King 2:

Simba’s Pride and a combination from the story book – Roaring Rory. In the Lion

King 3: Rory continues the saga of Simba as he teaches his daughter, Ciara, the

meaning of the Circle of Life. The climax begins when Ciara sneaks away and

ends up in the forbidden Outlands. She met Kovu and Molly, former mate of Scar.

Molly wanted to take revenge of Rory’s family but Ciara’s words put a stop to it.

She tells her they must live in peace and that they are all one with the Circle of

Life. Everyone sees the wisdom in this and they live happily ever after.

SCENE 1: PRIDE ROCK

(Lights come up, Sally takes Ciara from Shaina’s hands, UL and holds her up

before the assembled crowd,UC. The animals all cheer, DC, and Rory and

Shaina, CL are blown by the wind from the approving figure of Simba.

Henry: Oh Sally, look at that little guy, CR. He’s so cute…I can’t wait to teach him

the really important stuff? Like how to belch? (burp) And dig for grubs? (jumps

down) I’m telling you buddy… it’s gonna be like old times. You, me..and the little

guy..

Sally: (chuckles) It’s a girl, DR.

Henry: ...Girl.. (shocked) Girl?!..Oy! (Henry collapses in a dead faint)

SCENE 2: THE OUTLANDS

 Thunder and wind. An insect lands on the ground; immediately, Kovu

appears,UR,pouncing.

Kovu: Rrrrowwwr! CC, (Kovu opens his paws to reveal the insect,buzzing;he

smiles and opens his paws, releasing it to fly away)

Molly: Kovu! DL (She snatches the insect from the air and smashes it to the

ground). Don’t let it go. What’s the matter with you?

Kovu: But Mother! He wasn’t hurting anyone.

Molly: There is no room for weakness here, my son. Remember..Scar took you

in and accepted you as his own son. (Molly has moved closer and pulled Kovu

against her. Kovu seems doubtful)

Kovu: But he wasn’t my father, DC.

Molly: No..but he choose you to become the next King, DR. When you rule; we

shall no longer be forced to live in these dry and disgusting Outlands! (Molly is

swatting at the ground, railing against fate. Kovu looks down, in quiet agreement)

SCENE 3: PRIDE ROCK

Rory: Ciara..Wake up dear!! I’m gonna teach you how to stalk, prowl and pounce

today like a big lion..Come dear!! Over here!! CC

Ciara: But Daddy, It’s still early in the morning..I want to lounge and laze out on

the sunny plain, DR.

Rory: Ciara!! (moved closer towards her) I just want you to be careful and know

how to protect yourself when you’re in danger. Accidents can happen. You could

easily get hurt, or stepped - -

(Ciara says this well-practiced line along with Rory, and finishes it for him)

Ciara:…Hurt, or stepped on, or even get lost (sighed).

Rory: And remember..I want you to stay in sight of Pride Rock at all - - CC

Ciara: At all times, I know. (She continues reciting). And if I see any strangers,

don’t talk to them. Come straight home. Okay, okay. Can I go now? Please? DC

(Rory exchanges a glance with Shaina)

Rory: Hurmm…Very funny.

Shaina: (laughs gently) Mind your father, Ciara, CL.

Ciara: (giggles) Yes, Mom.

Rory: And stay away from the Outlands, DC.

Ciara: But Dad, I - - DL

Rory: You’ll understand someday. Go on.

SCENE 4: near THE OUTLANDS

ACT 1

(Ciara is walking through the tall grass, chasing a butterfly)

Ciara: Hey! Wait! Come back! I just wanna play! UL (She sees the butterfly land,

and crouches to attack) Ahhh..the mighty hunter has cornered her prey. (snarls)

Errrrh!! UR (Ciara’s pounce takes her up the side of a small rise, from which she

can see a distance into the Outlands)

Ciara: Whoah..cool! DR (amazed) The Outlands! I wonder what’s out there…

(A rustling in the grass behind her draws Ciara’s attention. She turns, and the

grass separates)

Ciara,Henry and Sally: Eeeeek!! CR (squeals of fright and surprise)

Ciara: What are you guys doing here? (shocked)

Henry and Sally: Errmmm..(hesitated)we just keep an eye on you..just to ensure

that you’re safe.

Ciara: But I am!! By the way, who’s that guy over there? (pointing at Kovu, DL)

Ciara: Hello there..(shouting and waving at Kovu) Hello..(screaming) Who are

you? What is your name? Where do you live? DC

Kovu: Are you talking to me? CC (weird because he never met any other cub

before)

(Ciara does not answer, but keeps jumping from side to side, staying facing Kovu

at all times. Kovu keeps growling threateningly, but eventually his curiosity gets

the better of him)

Kovu: What are you doing? DC

Ciara: My father says to never turn your back on an Outsider! DR

(Henry and Sally ran to tell Rory about a strange cub talking to Ciara)

ACT 2

Rory: Ciara dear, what are you doing there? UL Haven’t I told you earlier not to

come here!! And, who is this guy? (roaring angrily)

Ciara: Ohh..uurmm..Daddy?? (surprised) You should be home right now. Why

are you here anyway?? CC

Rory: I ran here just to take you home (exhausted). Henry and Sally told me that

you are talking to a stranger. I’m scared if someone wants to hurt you. By the

way, who are you anyway? CL

ACT 3

Molly: He is my son - Kovu and he will defeat you!! UR

Rory: Molly!! CL

(Shaina, Henry, and Sally arrive behind Rory, with other lionesses)

Molly: Shaina??!! UL

Shaina: Molly? Is that you?? I haven’t seen you for a while (excited)..How are

you? UC

Molly: Huh?!! Me? I’m glad to train Kovu to kill you, Rory!! And you too Shaina!!

And the little girl over here!! (sarcastic).. CR

(Ciara is hiding her face behind her mother. She is scared)

Kovu: Mother!! Why you hate them so much? Father won’t be happy if he saw us

like this.. DR

Molly: Shut up Kovu!! (glancing at him) You don’t know anything!!

Rory: Molly, your husband killed my father and I don’t give a word about it. Let’s

forget the past. However long the night, the dawn will break. CC

(Molly ignored Rory’s words and walk away with Kovu, UL)

Ciara(chasing Molly, UC): Aunty..Why you hate us too much? Have we done

anything wrong to your family? Can I be friend with Kovu?

Kovu: Yes mother? Can we be friends?? UC (asking eagerly)

Ciara: Aunty, if you kill us..you will be just like him and this war has no stop.

Rory: Molly..sometimes, what’s left behind can grow better than the generation

before…if given the chance..(sadly) CL

Molly: Rory..I’m sorry, CC (regretting her actions). There is too much hatred in

me. I hate you and your family because my husband died because of you. So, I

want to teach Kovu to seek revenge for my family..but I realized that it is better to

let go of the past. Can we start it all over again? (begging Rory) Can you accept

us in again in Pride Land?

Rory: Of course Molly. Let’s start again..We are one of a kind so we should not

fight among ourselves, DL…

Henry: Ooohh.. I feel like crying right now Sally..(sobbed). Life is so a

drama..and like any other fairytales..they live happily ever after in the Pride

Rock..(grinning) from DR to DC
