Solo Improvisation Lesson Plan Goal: To experience and identify how to successfully and confidently improvise through clear

movement idea development. Synopsis: This class is for high school students who are beginner modern dancers. Students will begin with a warm-up that will allow them to not only make their own decisions, but to quickly change movement ideas. Students will explore how to move through space as I guide them through physical tasks. Also, students will discuss how to make clear choices and develop movement idea, and will be given the opportunity to perform, improvised solos (through a guided score provided by me) and provide feedback on what they observed. Essential Questions: How do I make clear decisions? How do I develop one idea? How do I stay engaged in what I am doing? Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to: Produce movement through a series guided exercises that will help students make movement choices. NDSStandard 2: Students use improvisation to generate movement for choreography. TEKS(1) Perception. The student is expected to: (A) demonstrate a developing kinesthetic and spatial awareness; (B) demonstrate respect for others when working in groups; (C) demonstrate effectively the connection between emotions and movement; and (D) identify details in movement in natural and constructed environments. Cue: Pick a body part and start to find ways to move that body apart in space. Take these ideas and work on level changes Talk about focus Across the Floor Take the ideas of Center A and move them across the floor- 4 passes R and L Gather and talk about sensations and other things they noticed Center B Guided solo improv score - pick 3 verbs - abstract it - do a level change 3 times - body part focus Get into groups and perform the score. Students will then give feed back on what they noticed while watching.
