Constitution of Future Educational Leaders of America

Preamble: FELA strives to promote the understanding of educational issues that are prevalent in todays society, along with a developing base of knowledge about becoming an educational administrator and/or policy maker.

Article I: The name of this organization shall officially be known as Future Educational Leaders of America (FELA). Article II: Affiliations: o Section 1. FELA shall maintain a reciprocal relationship with other educationbased organizations such as Collegiate Middle Level Association, Early Childhood Organization, and Adolescent Young Adult Association. Article III: The purpose of this organization shall include:

FELA 2 o Section 1. To establish and maintain a strong understanding of educational issues which persist in todays society. o Section 2. To develop a base of knowledge about becoming an educational administrator and/or policy maker. o Section 3. To establish an environment that encourages open discussion without negative language or attitude of any kind toward another member of the organization. o Section 4. To establish an understanding of the operation of the United States Educational System. Article IV: Membership Statement: Membership in student organizations shall be open to students of BGSU without regard to sex, gender identity, genetic information, gender expression, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, marital status, disability, pregnancy, military status, age, or status as a Special Disabled or Vietnam-era veteran. Membership Requirements: o Section 1. All members must be a student at, or alumni of, Bowling Green State University. o Section 2. All members must display an interest in Education and strive to learn more about Americas educational system, bettering themselves in the process. Article V: Officers:

FELA 3 o Section 1. Officers of FELA shall be elected for the upcoming semester at the last meeting of each semester. o Section 2. The group of officers shall be considered the executive board. o Section 3. Officers shall be elected by a majority vote by all members present at the last meeting of the semester. o Section 4. All members present shall determine the voting process during the last meeting of each semester. o Section 5. An officer that is deemed unfit by any member of the organization may be called for impeachment by any member of the organization. Sub-Section 1. The officer called to be impeached will have the opportunity to speak on his/her own behalf to attempt to maintain their position. Sub-Section 2. Impeachment of an officer shall require a 2/3majority vote of all members present. o Section 6. Each officer shall serve a term of one semester unless they are removed from office through the process of impeachment. o Section 7. The available officer positions are as follows: o Section 8. President: Sub-Section 1. The president is responsible for running all meetings of executive board. The president shall work to establish a strong working relationship between executive board members as well as the organization as a whole.

FELA 4 Sub-Section 2. The president is also responsible for establishing and maintaining communication with other organizations. Sub-Section 3. The president shall be responsible for determining the order in which topics are presented to the organization as a whole. Sub-Section 4. The president shall be responsible for keeping the running speakers list throughout the meeting. o Section 9. Vice President: Sub-Section 1. The vice president shall also serve as president in the event that the president is not in attendance. Sub-Section 2. The vice president shall take all notes at organization meetings. Sub-Section 3. The vice president shall assist the president in any necessary responsibilities. o Section 10. Treasurer: Sub-Section 1. The treasurer shall be responsible for keeping an accurate and consistent budget for the organization. Article VI: Faculty/ Staff Advisor o Section 1. The incoming president shall select the faculty/ staff advisor. o Section 2. The advisor shall be responsible for guiding the executive board to any available resources.

FELA 5 o Section 3. The president shall maintain the ability to change advisors if they so choose. Article VII: Meetings: o Section 1. Meeting times shall be determined at the first meeting of the executive board. o Section 2. General meetings shall not exceed two times per month. o Section 3. Executive Board meetings shall be held before each general meeting. o Section 4. The president shall run each meeting with executive authority. o Section 5. Meetings shall be run with a running speakers list. Sub-Section 1. The vice president shall be responsible for keeping the speakers list during each meeting. Article VIII: Quorum o Section 1. At least one half of the executive board shall be present in order for business decisions to take place. o Section 2. In the event of a decision being passed to the general organization, a minimum of ten members must be present to vote. o Section 3. Every member of the organization shall be granted voting rights. Article IX: Referendum and Recall

FELA 6 o Section 1. Bylaws may be adopted to fit the needs of the organization at any meeting by a consensus of the executive board members present, providing such bylaws conflict in no way with the constitution and bylaws of the Universitys student handbook. Article X: Amendments o Section 1. Changes to this constitution may be presented by any member of the executive board and must be approved with a consensus.
