What area as affected by the bubonic plague? How did it affect the lives of the people?

Map the areas that were most affected, identify which people or classes were most effected by the plague Students will research different plagues in history and in groups research and create a presentation on a plague

Biology

What is Plague? Types of Plagues in history

Use online resources to find specific examples of populations effected by the bubonic plague during a specific time period use search engines such as Google or Bing to conduct research and use PowerPoint or Prezi to create a presentation

Teacher evaluation of completion and understanding of concepts

Students should answer questions in a short essay

World: Analyze and interpret the major eras and important turning points in world history from the Age of Enlightenment to the present to develop an understanding of the complexity of the human experience. Create original works as a means of personal or group expression

Students will create a spreadsheet to represent the amount of people who were infected and how many were killed by the bubonic plague Students will read Year Of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks

Use Microsoft Excel to represent the rates of death

Students will submit spreadsheet to instructor

Students will create a spreadsheet and graphs to represent the rate of death in Europe during the Plague

Use mathematical models to represent and understand quantitative relationships. Process data and report results

Students will create a blog online and reflect on the reading they are doing for each chapter via (weebly.com, or wix.com)

Students will also complete chapter quizzes to ensure that they understand the material presented

Instructor will evaluate students website for completeness and minimum requirements

How do diseases spread how do we fight them

Discuss recent diseases and antibiotics

Instructor will use visual aids such as power point to identify a variety of infections

Informal participation grade for participating in the discussion

Students will have a better understanding of combatting bacterial infections and the use of antibiotics

Benchmark #1-C: Describe and explain how the Renaissance and Reformation influenced education, art, religion, and government in Europe, to include: development of Renaissance artistic and literary traditions (e.g., Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Shakespeare)
