RESEARCHING CIVIL WAR SOLDIERS

National Park Service U.S. Department of the Interior Vicksburg National Military Park

If you know the state with which the soldier served, you should contact the appropriate state office for more detailed information. Check with the individual state offices about inquiry procedures and fees. Include as much information as possible about the soldier or sailor: Full name; Enlistment date; Enlistment place; Unit; Home county; Home town/city; Age; Place of burial, etc.

The more information that you include, the better chance the archives will have of providing additional information.
