jwr47 A few months ago my friend Catherine started sending me suggestions to solve some of mankind's major problems. Catherine wasn't very selective in searching for new ideas. Most of her suggestions however came from energy supplies and energy conversions, mostly inventive technical equipment. Strange motors and complicated generators. Most of it looked like magic and some of the designs were clearly voodoo or Cargo cult designs. Still I tried to answer her questions in all seriousness, because I knew she tried to understand what happened. After all some of her questions also involved social control and ethics. The more impact a potential invention was promising to have the more effort seemed to have been invested to avoid its success. Nobody ever cared for simple fake free energy generators, which obviously were running on a couple of small silver cells. Nobody cared for the inventor who bought used cars and implanted a heavyweight electric motor to store rotational energy in a flywheel. Others however who might have invented a really promising design had to be careful to stay out of jail or to sell their invention to powerful investors. I didn't like the hoaxes in which amateurs did hide batteries to operate small motors and LEDs on small batteries pretending they were operating on free energy without revealing the truth at the end of a video clip. I imagined how much money might be invested by young children to buy components to build a free energy generator, which never would be operating because the circuit had been published as a hoax. I decided to publish some of these hoaxes to demonstrate how they worked and how you might identify a valuable circuit from bogus schematics. Initially I didn't really invest too much time to these investigations, but the growing number of the video clips indicated an increased activity of inventors and public interest even among nontechnical circles. There are numerous sources of energy, which are just waiting around the corner to be exploited. Free energy is available at no cost, but you might have to invest lots of effort to find a suitable converter. There is gravitational, potential, nuclear fission, nuclear fusion, ionospheric, solar, cosmic, thermal energy. All of these sources may be used. In the end none of the free energy concepts is really using free energy. An easily available source of really free energy would probably be as catastrophic as the end of affordable energy. That's what I am going to explain to Catherine the next time we will meet for a discussion...

Pantone motor
17.02.12 Catherine started our discussions with an advertisement for the Pantone motor, which had been demonstrated and explained in a video Paul Pantone Plasma Reactor Motor. I never had heard of the Pantone motor, but saw that the system had been most successful in France, where the engine had been used to power 1000 tractors1. Put quite simply, the exhaust heat is transferred to the incoming fuel vapor, which must be maintained in a vacuum, and the overall configuration provides a molecular breakdown within the vacuum of all of the heavier elements. Therefore, intensifying the vacuum, the speed of molecular breakdown or reaction is magnified, and less heat is required. 2 I asked a friend who had been doing research on motor technology. He confirmed that tuning motor technology might indeed improve some parameters in the combustion process. However he expected that the tuning might be very sensitive and required strict standards. Tuning will always be advantageous because standard versions of cars will always be designed and calibrated for a great variety of regions with varying tolerances, temperature ranges, fuel quality, octane numbers, air pressures. If you want to have irregularities at extreme conditions you might try to tune your car, but you never will be sure you will end your trip without a problem...

Cold fusion
14.03.12 The next topic was Cold fusion. The Focardi-Rossi Energy-Catalyzer reports a commercial launch was postponed several times. Neither gamma nor neutron radiation typical for fusion processes could be measured, and there is no proof of the creation of non-natural isotope ratios in the alleged fusion products. Early 2012 Australian aerospace engineer Ian Bryce investigated the reports of the conducted tests 2012 and found, that the shown experiments can easily be conducted by misconnecting the wires of the three-core power lead: One just has to connect the earth lead to the active pin and connect the earth lead than to the heaters. It would bypass the metering instruments since it usually doesn't make sense to measure the earth lead. The extra power would suffice to explain the measured heating output. I found some recent information in Rossi Focardi Ecat - Cold Fusion LENR dated 24 April 2013, in which 97 different E-Cat units are reported in operation at international level in homes across the world. If these E-Cats get good reviews from their users, it will be a sure sign of the unit's future success. A remote similarity to the CETI Patterson Power Cell and to the Zirconium fusion reactor of Bolotov has been reported3.

Fluorescent energy saving lamp

11/2/2012 Last year Catherine must have been really upset after she realized the EU ordered the population to ban the environmentally safe incandescent lamps and replace these by obviously toxic products. It has been proven that the fluorescent energy saving lamps do have serious risks. Toxic materials (mercury, several gases) and harmful electromagnetic radiation may not only be be emitted during normal usage, but also in disposal and irregular accidents5. Apart from these hazards some of the lamps provide bad quality and do not even meet the specifications for lifetime and environmental requirements. Still they may be sold in large numbers to unwilling customers by forbidding incandescent lamps6. Additionally the disposal procedure has not been defined. Most customers throw their defect lamps (which often do not even reach the standard 1000 hours lifetime of the old bulbs) into the garbage cans. Defective lamps with a broken containment will spread mercury vapors, which sometimes cannot be handled in a professional way and might harm the unknowing users. Catherine did send me some web-information such as the Phoebus cartel (famous for controlling the manufacture and sale of light bulbs), the keshefoundation (to produce small plasma reactors) and the Codex Alimentarius (to "protect" the consumer's health on a worldwide scale 7). And her reactions clearly indicated an alarmingly staggering distrust in the quality of EU-decisions and doubts in the benefits of some released EU-regulations. The distrust is being aggravated by the dilettantism in solving the monetary problems. Instead of avoiding collapses the system is heading towards a global collapse. In the end I would find some fluorescent lamps, which might be activated by strong electric fields. The method to activate gas discharge tubes such as the Geissler tube types by electric fields had been used by Tesla for demonstrations and X-ray experimentation. At the Columbian Exposition 1893, Tesla demonstrated a series of electrical effects in a lecture he had performed throughout America and Europe. This included using high-voltage, high-frequency alternating current to light a wireless gas-discharge lamp. An observer noted: Within the room was suspended two hard-rubber plates covered with tin foil. These were about fifteen feet apart, and served as terminals of the wires leading from the transformers. When the current was turned on, the lamps or tubes, which had no wires connected to them, but lay on a table between the suspended plates, or which might be held in the hand in almost any part of the room, were made luminous. These were the same experiments and the same apparatus shown by Tesla in London about two years previous, "where they produced so much wonder and astonishment"8. And apart from the dangerous radiation levels of high-voltage RF-fields in living rooms the idea of energy transfers for lighting were quite sophisticated. It might even be used to activate a simpler model of fluorescent lamps, in which the electrical ballast may be omitted or disfunctional.

Free Energy in Politics

1/10/2013 Catherine asked me to discuss the idea of sustainable energy strategies. She told me she was very suspicious about global control of energy (including controls for finances, food industries, health and information control9) and the support for free energy alternatives. She suggested I should inform myself by studying the video THRIVE: What On Earth Will It Take? The torus is the breath of the universe. Toroidal energy as an elementary pattern (the 64poled osirian symbol) for free energy? Extra-terrestrial intelligence? Aliens? DNA-patterns in crop designs? That's not my cup of tea. After 34 minutes the video shortly touches Tesla's unlimited energy for everyone. Inventors of free energy systems (John Bedini, Eugene Mallove) are reported to be suppressed by a 300 trillion $ monopoly business10. This is the message, which had upset my friend. I decided to continue reading. If a story doesn't make sense, follow the money. The story switched to petroleum based agriculture with genetic and pest control, including fertilizers and pesticides. This surely is big business in monopolies. In order to protect monopolies fixed response to authorities is being educated in a standardized schooling system. This leads to the definition of corporatrocy in which the most important control mechanism is fractional banking ( the Tapeworm Economics - at 1:00 and Economic Hit Man at 1:21, depopulation strategies at 1:36). One example of suppression involves the case of Royal Raymond Rife, an inventor who developed an electronic frequency machine that he claimed could destroy cancer-causing microbes11. Of course such mechanisms do not really reassure populations that they may feel confidence in democratically voting their leaders. Energy is one of the dominating parameters in society and energy also determines the availability of nutrition & clean sweet water, fertilizers, transport, pesticides, machinery. In the AC/DC-war with Edison Tesla had been confronted with the monopolies, which are being used to control the power markets. After his death his confidential notes had to be secured and selected before a release to the public. Too much free energy would lead to abundant waste, traffic jams and energy bubbles. Too much food is known to result in obesity, health problems, such as diabetes, etc. Too much money results in the series of bubbles we are experiencing. Too much hydraulic fracturing (fracking) may result in environmental damage, but also disturbs existing mining methods. The control of strategic parameters such as money, energy, food, water, transport is becoming more difficult. It would be a tragedy if cheap uncontrolled energy would be flooding the market. On the other hand the development of new energy sources has to be intensified to find alternatives for the fracking and other mining technologies. I remember we met the 26th of December 2012 in a Greek restaurant and discussed these topics with a friend of hers. There were high emotions and fears for an energy or monetary collapse, due to political controversies, but in the end we were sure a new energy source might at least delay catastrophes. We promised to inform each other to spreading information for alternative energy sources.

Often saving energy will be titled free energy as well. Of course these titles are blurring discussions and the search tools to find the required documentations.

Saving energy
Most power supplies for laptops will only be activated if the batteries are empty and they will switch off as soon as a certain charging level has been reached. A switched off power supply merely dissipate small amounts of energy. The saved amount of energy is free energy (available at the power plant), which may be used for other purposes.

Recycling methods for Energy (& using simulator software)

In 1991 I remember to have published a method to quickly remove magnetic energy from a coil. Of course this energy might also be used to be recycled and used for other purposes. Selling the concept of free of charge energy for 37US$

Of course the following idea is just a business plan to earn free money: Is this actually possible? Evidently it is. The Nikola Tesla Key has the plans, diagrams and instructions to establish a simple circuit system of an easily transportable generator. It could serve various electrical functions like charging phones, lights, tv, etc. Though it sells the concept of free of charge energy, it is not actually free of charge given that you will pay a small amount of 37 bucks to access the Do It Yourself kit for the radiant energy generator. The items should build the generator expense less than 100 bucks. However, purchasing building this generator has big benefits in the kind of cost savings and endless access to energy13.

Test Results for (some) free energy systems

A standard definition for free energy systems seems to be missing. In fact the number of Google-hits is growing at an alarming rate. Especially various hoax videos are being published to describe free energy generators. Most of these videos will be provided with some advertisments, which may allow some of the authors to earn some money, but in fact these clips are just wasting bandwidth and energy. As a rule the comments to these clips are filled with unpleasant utterings to stop spreading this kind of garbage... In a response Catherine did send me another, most informative documentary titled Nikola Tesla unlimited free energy forever THEY dont want you to know about. Unfortunately it is rather difficult to list all topics. The video refers to a great number of tests for free energy generation, of which only a small number has been analyzed for further details: the R.E.: T. Henry Moray14 developed over a thirty year period an energy device he called Radiant Energy, R.E., that (according to the records) delivered up to fifty thousand watts of power or enough to light a dozen homes at one time, in a unit not weighing fifty pounds15. Testatika: Much later (in the 1960s), a machine known as "Testatika" was built by German engineer, Paul Suisse Bauman, and promoted by a Swiss community, the Methernithans. Testatika is an electromagnetic generator based on the 1898 Pidgeon electrostatic machine, said to produce "free energy" available directly from the environment. There are a number of recent articles referring to the topic ionic wind, such as Ionic Wind Could Power Jet Engines : Discovery News The Paul Pantone Plasma Reactor Motor (I already had studied this systems before). The Pantone generator however might also be considerd as a tuning system to improve combustion in physical terms not really a plasma generator. the cold fusion claims (published March 1989). The Paterson Power cell: a light and heavy water system producing "excess heat". ... "It is one of few cold fusion systems which has been granted a U.S. Patent. Even for experts it is difficult to separate fraud from serious inventions 16. Sometimes machines use already uploaded energy, which is stored as magnetic energy or rotational energy in mass. At least the video does not contain the most obvious fake circuits.

Published free energy generators

A number of devices use the ionospheric charges and the 400,000V voltage of the ionosphere. This energy already had been discovered by Tesla, who at that time did not really understand the mechanisms as well. At the time Tesla invented his most creative designs there had not been so much atmospheric RFpower compared to today's situation. Today modern urban locations are filled with noisy RF-signals for mobile communication, radio and TV-transmitters and radar-signals. Factories and laboratories may add lots of harmonics to the noise spectrum. Modern standards often require to filter unwanted spectral components, but in general the noise energy seems to be growing from year to year.

Cosmic (natural) RF-power

The ionosphere's structure as an electrostatic battery have been documented and explained by Feynmann in chapter 12 of The Feynman Lectures on Physics. In this marvellous lecture Feynman sketches an instrument to detect and check the local current (at a level of ~ 1pA/m2). He also includes a sketch of the daily variations. In fact cosmic RF-power is natural electromagnetic power, which is delivered as a tiny DC-current, which on a daily base varies 15%. The maximum occurs when the clocks in London say 7:00 o'clock P.M., whereas the minimum is found at 4:00 A.M. At the ionospheric layers a high conductivity will take care of equal voltages at the top layer, which also vary 15% on the daily base. The voltage is 400,000V, at a global current level of 1800A, resulting in an available energy of 700 Megawatts. This is a free energy that might be available on a global scale, if the correct technology is chosen. The local current has been specified at ~ 1pA/m2 and the local electrical field strength at the earth's surface is around 100 V/m. This however is a very small current and requires a large antenna and a sensitive meter system. Most systems will pickup other transmitted radiation from nearby transmitters. However the DC-current may easily be identified by excluding RF-frequencies in the current meter. Feynman uses a capacitor, in which one of the electrodes will be charged by the small current of ~ 1pA/m2 and will be discharged by a sensitive meter.

Artificial RF-Power
The artificial RF-Power varies from location to location, but will be very high near transmitters, which in modern urgan areas often are located in the downtown area. The RF-power may be very high, but most of the published test setups to tap the free energy will only receive rather low frequencies. A sample test circuit17 with a 33 feet high antenna reports a received voltage of 14V and a current of 165 micro Amps. This is a rather low energy level, but much higher than the 1pA/m2 -standard of the cosmic (natural) RF-power. The artificial RF-Power requires an AC-meter circuit with a rectifier. The storage capacitor may be used to accumulate a certain amount of electical power to provide a higher amount of energy in a short interval.

Except for locations near transmitters the standard RF-power is unsufficient to power most circuitry. Only few electronic userware may be powered by such free energy-antennas. If you need a few milliamperes at 24-50V DC some web-authors seriously suggest to tap a telephone line, which has been advertised as an alternative free energy-source18.

Nuclear sources of energy?

Terrestrial gamma-ray flashes (TGFs) are bursts of gamma rays in the Earth's atmosphere. TGFs have been recorded to last 0.2 to 3.5 milliseconds, and have energies of up to 20 MeV. They are probably caused by electric fields produced above thunderstorms. Scientists have also detected energetic positrons and electrons produced by terrestrial gamma-ray flashes. The gamma radiation bursts "dark lightning" maybe able to blind sensors on satellites many hundreds of miles away and they are expected to hit airline passengers who are flying near a thunderstorm with radiation doses ranging from 10 chest X-rays to a full-body CT scan19. Positrons and bursts of gamma rays may indicate nuclear reactions. And if electromagnetic pulses may initiate nuclear reactions these mechanisms may also be found in all free energy designs which apply the same discharge mechanisms as may be found in the "dark lightning 20"-types of discharge.

The Schumann resonances

Schumann frequency
The Schumann resonances (SR) are a set of spectrum peaks in the extremely low frequency (ELF) portion of the Earth's electromagnetic field spectrum. Schumann resonances are global electromagnetic resonances, excited by lightning discharges in the cavity formed by the Earth's surface and the ionosphere21. The discovery of the ionospheric layers opened a way to shortwave global communication channels. Tesla may have foreseen some properties of these mechanisms from his experiments. In January Catherine asked me to explain why the Schumann frequency recently had increased to 21 Hz. I told her the 21 Hz signal must have been a third harmonic of the base frequency 22. This global electromagnetic resonance phenomenon make the space between the surface of the Earth and the conductive ionosphere behave as a more or less closed waveguide, allowing waves to be conducted, reflected or generated by lightning or similar impulses. The ELF-frequencies may be around 7.83 (fundamental), 14.3, 20.8, 27.3 and 33.8 Hz. The ELF frequency band ranges up to 300Hz and its special communication technology has been kept a secret for many years. Huge transmitter and receiver structures have been built. The originally proposed system would have a giant antenna consisting of 6000 miles of buried cables in a rectangular grid covering 22,500 square miles, 40% of the state of Wisconsin, powered by 100 underground power plants in concrete bunkers23. The system had been designed to communicate with submerged submarines: ELF radio waves are generated by lightning and natural disturbances in Earth's magnetic field, so they are a subject of research by atmospheric scientists. Because of the difficulty of building antennas that can radiate such long waves, ELF frequencies have been used in only a very few man-made communication systems. ELF waves can penetrate seawater, so the US and Russian militaries have used ELF transmission facilities to communicate with their submerged submarines. The frequency of alternating current flowing in electric power grids, 50 or 60 Hz, falls within this frequency band, and power grids are an unintentional source of ELF radiation24.

Whistlers
I already had been fascinated by the Whistler (Radio) phenomenon, with is triggered by a very remote lightning discharge and may be propagated along a magnetic field line to another particular spot at the earth's surface, where it may be converted to an audible beep. Although they are electromagnetic waves, they occur at audio frequencies, and can be converted to audio using a suitable receiver. Strange effects such as the Dawn chorus (electromagnetic) and Whistlers have been observed and analyzed, but non of these really seem to be useful for the long distance propagation of electric energy. And this might have been the problem for Tesla to overcome the 1 mile limit of useful propagation for electric power.

Some of the documents refer to the distribution of free energy: However Tesla refers to energy supplies such as the sun or other sources, which in a physical environment always will be limited to some technically maximal allowable or available influx of energy. The apparatus being arranged as shown, it will be found that when the radiations of the sun or of any other source capable of producing the effects before described fall upon the plate P an accumulation of electrical energy in the condenser C will result. US-Patent 685.957, S.2, Z.44ff.25 Accumulating energy from sources and redistributing energy from central locations involves antennas, which behave according to standard physical laws. In a closed room it may have been easy to generate a high frequency field with high voltages. It has been enough to activate Geissler tubes. In a video26 it is shown how we might transfer HF-energy to fluorescent energy saving lamps, which even may be operated without the electronic circuitry.

Antenna Theory
Most of Tesla's own test setups had been restricted to wireless powering an incandescent lamp at a distance of approximately 1-2 miles. Beyond this limits the power level quickly to insignificant levels. In the far field each antenna will behave like a small object, which may be identified as a spot location. Without conductors and in free space the electromagnetic energy will be diminishing with growing distances.

Hoax designs (named: Free energy generators)

Some of the video clips simply have been edited to veil the obvious fraud. In that case the test cannot be repeated to a public viewing community. This is the case in simple video clips of non patented designs such as free energy generator - outside - filmed in one take recorded without any audience at the set. Of course a patent does not really guarantee a serious design. Many patents do not really describe a high quality in designing. Sometimes the patents cover inventions, which have not been understood by their inventors at all. Especially in the field of free energy there seems to be a serious lack of authorities to discern frauds from inventions. Some published systems such as: Free Energy Generators (including 5 working working setups) and Selfmade Free Energy Generator - Demonstration and description

have been published as hoaxes and jokes. Most of these and similar designs are just jokes, which sometimes may be explained at the end of the video clip.

I think it's not a perpetuum mobile, the power has to come from an external source. Voltage is stable, even under load, that's promising! This is not really promising. The device may be carried around without any variations of the received voltage. This indicates that the voltage is not coming from the outside. It is being supplied within the device. The voltage at the coil's terminals is negative: -5.92 V, which indicates a DC-monitoring position of the meter.27 The voltage is a DC-voltage. It is being supplied by batteries.

Supercapacitors
A typical conventional electrolytic capacitor may have capacitance of up to tens of millifarads. The same size supercapacitor might reach several farads, an improvement of two up to three orders of magnitude. The maximum capacitance of a commercial deliverable supercapacitor was in 2013 up to 12,000 F with 1.5 V in a round can of 84x32x210 mm.28 Some of the specified is being illustrated in video clips such as: Fun with ultracapacitors!!
