Learning Objectives: Students will be able to: Identify how they know they are feeling stressed Understand how to cope with stress in healthy ways Recognize the difference between stressors within their control compared to stressors out of their control Identify available professionals with whom the student can talk to when they are stressed at home and school.

160 Ridgewood Rd., Riverside, IL 60546 Lesson Procedures: Student Involvement is Italicized 1. The school counselor will hand out the pre-test. Students will complete the pre-test. 2. Counselor will initiate large group discussion about stress management by asking students to identify sources of stress. 3. Counselor will transition discussion into brainstorming ways students currently handle stress. 4. Counselor will hand out "Stress Less" worksheet and students will fill out the worksheet individually. After completing the worksheet the counselor will allow students to share the healthy vs. harmful ways to deal with stress. 5. The school counselor will then ask students whom they turn to during stressful times. The school counselor will emphasize the services available in the student services department and that counselors are available to help them through it. 6. Students will share the new strategies they came up with to help deal with stress. 7. The counselor will hand out Sources of Stress worksheet. This worksheet is to help students identify stressors they can control vs. stressors they cant control. Counselors will emphasize how students identify each. 8. After students complete the worksheet, the counselor will facilitate large group discussion sharing ideas about each topic. 9. Distribute Post-Test assessment. Plan for Evaluation: How will each of the following be collected? Process Data: All Sophomore level students (~200) will participate in the stress management activity. Counselors will perform the lesson during health class.

Perception Data 95% of students can identify 3 ways they can positively manage stress 100% of students can identify stressors within their control and how to deal with these stressors 100% of students can identify individuals they can turn to when dealing with stress Outcome Data: In the past year, there has been a 50% decrease in students responding to stress in negative and unhealthy ways
