Elissa Zakharia 5th Hour Tom Sawyer is one selfish and tricky boy in the book The Adventures

of Tom Sawyer. His moods are also always changing and how he is acting is very weird at times. But, Tom eventually learns that it is not all about him and he starts putting others before himself. First, I will say the first change that happened to Tom. It was after he witnessed the death of Dr. Robinson. Tom was acting very strange because he was feeling guilty, and was feeling bad for Muff Potter. He did not know what to do after seeing the murder. The doctor stuck out suddenly and stretched the ruffian on the ground. Potter dropped his knife, and exclaimed: Here, now, dont you hit my pard! (Twain pg. 74.) That is when Injun Joe kills Dr. Robinson. Next, the second change is when Tom and Huck come back and attend their own funeral. Tom was getting many kisses and love from everyone and the whole town was celebrating. However, Tom realized that no one cared about Huck and that he came back. Aunt Polly knelt down and prayed for Tom so touchingly, so appealingly, and with such measureless love in her words and her old trembling voice, that he was weltering in tears again, long before she was through. ( Twain pg.116) That was when Tom goes to his funeral and Aunt Polly sees Tom. To end with, the last, but biggest change in Tom was when him and Becky were trying to get out of the cave. Tom is usually a coward, and would not be able to figure out a way to get out of the cave but this time he was a leader. Nevertheless, they persevered and found a way out of the cave. Tom, Tom, were lost! We never can get out of this awful place! Oh, why DID we ever leave the others! She sank to the ground and burst into such a frenzy of crying that Tom was appalled with the idea that she might die, or lose her reason. He sat down by her and put his a rms around her. (Twain, pg.309) That is when Becky was scared, and Tom comforted her. In conclusion, this book was very good and it showed you to never give up. Such as when Tom never did give up when he was in the cave. I would recommend this book to all sixth graders. Toms eventually learns that it is not all about him and he starts putting others before himself.
