The Tories introduced introduced the bedroom tax on 1 April cutting 14% off housing benefit if a household has one spare bedroom and 25% for two. This week, Stephanie Bottrill killed herself because she could no longer afford to live. More than 10 million million people will be affected by the benefit benefit cuts being implemented over the next month with unemployed and disabled people among those worst off. Iain Duncan Smith, Work and Pensions Secretary, claims he can live on 53 a week a 97% reduction of his current income. This is equivalent to 7.57 a day, the amount some benefit claimants are left with after the cuts. Campaigns against the bedroom tax have already been set up in several cities across Britain. We support local protests on June 1 to reject this deadly tax on the poor.
