Against limiting students speech How free are students? Technology, such as cell phones texting, emails, or some websites even have changed communication. Online bullying has become a problem at many schools. Should schools be allowed to restrict and use consequences based on what students say through texting and on the internet. Although students abuse technology and use to bully others at school, schools should not limit students online speech. Reasons include that online bullying is not a disruption in class; it is not affecting many students and teachers and finally, above all speaking freely is protected by the United States constitution. Online bulling is not a major distraction in class. The school district could have reasonably forecasted a substantial disruption of or material interference with the school as a result of the J.S. profile instead of suspending the person who created the profile. According to the case of J.S. verses blue mountain school district presented in the United States court, under tinker, the school district violated J.S. first amendment free of speech rights when they suspended her for creating the profile. Teachers who are not affected by a student are very high. According to a graph presented by Sameer Hinduja and Justin Patchin from the cyber bullying research center, 44.2 percent of the perpetrators of cyber bullying against teachers are students. It also shows that bullying has been reducing the confidence of 38.6 percent of teachers. As you can see from the research 84.9 percent of people said they havent been bullied. Also some 38.6 percent of people said it had no effect on them. Speaking freely is protected by the constitution in the United States. Any restriction specifically aimed at limiting the speech rights of people less than 18 years of age in the electronic forum is a step in the wrong direction and not keeping with the ideas of the constitutional frame work. Bullying has been around for a long time and bullying has now been happening on the computer. According to Laura W.
