Descriptive writing

When we are telling stories it is good if the other person can imagine it. The best way to do this is to be descriptive. This means describing how things look, smell, sound, feel, etc. with lots of detail For example: Who is Jessie? 1. She is a girl. 2. She is a 13 year old girl. She has long blond hair and bright blue eyes. She goes to middle school and lives in Korea. She has a very beautiful smile. How was your day at the park? 1. 2. Good. It was great! I had a picnic with my friends. We ate pizza and sandwiches and drank juice on the grass. After we played a game of football and my team won. There were 8 people altogether and the weather was very hot and sunny. Which sentences do you prefer? Why? How was your lunch today? (Use lots of adjectives!)

Descriptive writing is very good when we are talking about our memories Can you think of your favourite memory? Answer the questions below.

1. When was it? 2. Where did it happen? 3. Who was there? 4. What did you do? 5. What happened? 6. List some details. (clothes, colours, sounds, tastes)

Now write about your favourite memory in a story. You will use this for your presentation today.
