My Journey June 26, 2013 OMDE 601 9021

Summer 2013, the writer starts her third MDE course. My learning experiences in higher education distance education (DE) are positive. After greeting my class members, and interacting with class members and three faculty members, we studied the academic definition of distance education. Weekly conference lectures, readings, videos, and discussions were helpful in understanding the scholarly definition of DE. The first course essay topic, Identify and quote a definition of distance education from the literature that most closely matches that of your own. I sent my draft to the course writing coach, and the class writing coach gave me I did not follow all the coaches feedback because I mistaken thought was using my own meaning of DE based on my personal experiences. My assignment, and was somewhat off not cohesive according to professors feedback. Rather than follow the assignment topic description, my paper discusses, not only definition of DE, but also the first three generations of DE. Overall, my grade is 78, and my professor feedback was helpful point out my missteps. My MDE journey learning continues by studying materials and readings focusing on the evolution of Wave 1 - early correspondence postal/mail distance education. Pioneer early educators like Otto Peters ( 2000, 2001), Michael Moore (2012, 2005), Berje Holmberg (1989), and Tony Bates (class video link) made significant contributions to the beginnings of DE. Otto Peters studied the industrialization of DE that evolved into the system approach theories. Holmbergs (1989) views on how empathy promotes learning in distance education. According to the scholars, empathy is beneficial for learners in text materials as well as technologies

mediums. The UK Open Distant Education explodes in the industrial era, and today ODL teaching and learning universities are worldwide. By the 4 and 5 weeks, class members peer groups must interact and develop Grids highlighting waves of distance education development from the 1800s to current DE systems. Peer interaction I group projects can be challenging in group projects especially when some members live in different time zones. Group 2 selected a Google Grid, and collaborated on Wave 1 era work. I started my research for the next class essay. I am researching literature from the links in the class room. Learners must select two universities (developed and under developed) and compare/contrast the two institutions. Finally, I have selected my e-portfolio platform, http://weebly.dorislyonsjones.com. My work includes biography, resume, and My MDE journey in word. I am adding pdf mind map software (www.mikndmeister.com), and a Web UTube video on distance education in India in my e-portfolio. I am choosing the classroom link for an Indian Open Distance Education university which is located in an under developed country. Fifty Years of Open and Distance education in India ... - YouTube
