Past continuous Prepositions of movement Past continuous and past simple PRACTICE!

PAST CONTINUOUS Use We use the past continuous to talk about something that was happening continuously in a designated time in the past. Ex.: At 10 0clock last night I was sleeping. COMPARE: I am eating. (estou comendo, presente, neste momento). I was eating. (estava comendo, passado, num momento do passado).

Past continuous verb to be (in the past) + ing Form Positive I was playing. You were playing. He/ She/ It was playing. We/ You/ They were playing.

Negative I wasnt playing. You werent playing. He/ She/ It wasnt playing. We/ You/ They werent playing.

Question Was I playing? Were you playing? Was he/she/it playing? Were we/you/they playing?

PREPOSITIONS OF MOVEMENT Getting off/ on(to) the bus. Walking up/ down the steps. Getting out of/ in(to) the car. Cycling along the road. Walking across the road. Running past the vide o shop.

PAST CONTINUOUS AND PAST SIMPLE In Portuguese and : Past simple Usamos o past simple para falar de algo que comeou e TERMINOU no passado. / We use the "past simple" to talk about something that began and FINISHED in the past. Ex.: I watched TV.

Past continuous Usamos o past continuous para falar de algo que estava acontecendo num momento do passado./ We use the "past continuous" to talk about something that was happening at a time of the past. Ex.: I was watching TV.

Podemos usar o past simple e past continuous juntos numa mesma frase com when. / .We can use the "past simple" and "past continuous together in the same sentence with" when ".

Usamos o past simple para falar de uma ao curta acabada (completa). We use the past simple to talk about a "short action" finished (complete). Usamos o past continuous para uma situao mais longa, com durao maior. We use the "past continuous" to a longer, lasting action.
