Statement from the office of Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi July 3, 2013 As translated by NPR The presidency renews

its affirmation of the roadmap through which it has responded to the call and invited all national forces for dialogue about conducting a comprehensive national reconciliation that satisfies the demands of the masses and absorbs all national, youth, political forces and removes the political tension Egypt witnesses these days. The presidency affirms that surpassing constitutio nal legitimacy threatens democratic practice and skews it from its correct path, and threatens the freedom of expression Egypt has witnessed after the revolution, because legitimacy is the only guarantee to stability and to overcoming acts of violence, thuggery, and lawlessness. The presidencys vision regarding these visions is to form a national coalition government to oversee the coming parliamentary elections and to form an independent commission to for constitutional amendments to be presented before the next parliament. The presidency bears the greater deal of responsibility for a number of political parties that have previously boycotted all calls of dialogue and reconciliation, most recently the initiative covering all what the streets demand with all their differences, and preventing the country from falling into the scenario of political infighting which no Egyptian wishes for his dear country. Keen on preventing bloodshed, the presidency invites all political and national forces to raise the national interest over those of each. All should be aware of a clear truth: that the Egyptian people, supporters or critics, have expressed their opinions by taking to the streets in the past period. Hundreds of thousands went down on both sides. Among the irrevocable mistakes -- as president for all Egyptians -- is to be biased towards one party or to reduce the scene for one party, thus fairness dictates listening to the voices of the crowds in all squares. The presidency adopts a clear and safe roadmap that is based on constitutional legitimacy which Egyptians have built together, based on forming a temporary coalition government based on national partnership to run the remaining period until parliamentary elections within months, and that the person of the prime minister be agreed upon by all political directions. ... This is our way for moving foward, let Egyptians have their say through the ballot boxes. However, the other scenario some are trying to impose on the Egyptian people is one that holds no consensus for the masses of Egyptians which have filled the streets of Egypt and may confuse the operation of institution building of which we have begun its first steps. And those who believe Egypt could regress are mistaken -- the legitimacy of the constitution and of the revolution, and imposing legitimacy of force upon this free Egyptian people which have tasted freedom and can only but spend their blood to maintain it, holding on to facing violence with the long-known pacifism of the Egyptian revolutionary.
