LESSON PLAN 2

Students will be able to identify and use available technologies to complete specific tasks. In this lesson, students will demonstrate a working knowledge of Microsoft Word 2010 using weekly spelling lists, Bible verses, and general classroom activities. Materials Needed 1. Computers for in-school use loaded with Microsoft Word 2010 software. 2. Access to clipart and digital images for insertion into document. 3. Access to Internet to search for teacher directed websites for independent work. Diversity Basic knowledge of document software is essential for future schoolwork and employment. Reports, letters, lists and more can be developed with a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word. Access to instructional websites and step by step direct instruction will be made available to all students. Accommodations can be made easily for those who require them. Technology Inclusion The lesson is to teach a working knowledge of Microsoft Word 2010. Clip art and digital photos will be included within the framework of the documents being prepared. Teacher directed websites will be utilized for independent study and practice. Procedures An overview and introduction of the software, Microsoft Word 2010, will be the purpose of this lesson. About three weeks will be necessary to teach this introduction to Word. Day 1 will begin with an overview of the software on the Smartboard. Day 2-4 will cover basic terminology, viewing the ribbon, backstage view and instruction on how to create a new document. Also covered during this time will be working with the text: insert, delete, select, copy, cut, and paste features. Another aspect of working with text will be formatting text: size,

LESSON PLAN 2 style color; highlight; bold, italics, underline and change case; and text alignment. One day of

review and one day for assessment will be at the end of week 1. Continuing working with Word documents, students will focus on saving and formatting documents, as well as, become familiar with the terminology: save as, location, file name; page setup: formatting, orientation, paper size, and margins. Students will use features like spell check; printing; and creating lists using bullets and columns. Use of shapes, text boxes, WordArt, pictures and clip art are then introduced. Another review and assessment will occur to gauge student progress. Week three will bring more independent work where students are creating spelling lists with number bulleted lists and inserting clip art or digital photos that best represents the spelling word. Resizing clip art will be required in order to fit within the list. Searching the Internet will be required for retrieval of weekly Bible verses to copy, paste and reformat into the Word document. Independent work and practice will be available through teacher directed websites like www.gcflearnfree.org for further study and www.spellingcity.com for spelling list practice. I Evaluation/Assessment 1. Students will successfully save and print weekly spelling lists with clip art. 2. Teacher observation of daily work and class participation. 3. Students will complete section challenges through a teacher approved website. Risk Analysis The risks to this lesson are the accessibility of computers for in-school use, proper software installation, as well as, access to the Internet. There are several days built into in the plan to accommodate extra practice and student absences. The teacher will need to make arrangements for computer use during the school day and accommodations for after school instruction if necessary.
