Requirements ar also included for modification, ‘weld repair and postweld treatments of new and existing weldments. Filer metal and welding procedure guidelines are recommended forthe applicable base metals, which are limited to carbon and low-alloy stels. Allowable unit stresses are provided for weld metal and base metal for various cyclically loaded joint designs. Statement on Use of AWS Standards Al standards (codes, specifications, recommended practices, methods, classifications, and guides) ofthe American ‘Welding Society are voluntary consensus standards that have been developed in accordance with the eules ofthe Amer- ‘can National Standards Insitute. When AWS standards are either incorporated in, or made ar of, documents that are in- cluded in federal or state laws and regulations or the regulations of other governmental bodes, thes provisions cary the ful legal autority ofthe statute. In such cases, any changes in those AWS standards must be approved by the govem- ‘mental body having statutory jurisdietion before they can become a par of those laws and regulation. In all eases, these standards cary the full legal authority ofthe contract or other document tha invokes the AWS standards. Where this contractual relationship exists, changes in or deviations from requirements of an AWS standard must be by agreement between the contracting parties.
