The Quest For Peace Lets face itwe live in an era embodied in Fix My Life and Dr. Phil . Theres nothing wrong with wanting to be better and do better, as it is not my aim to bash such interventions but bring awareness to a never changing theme of humanitys quest for peace. I believe that many folks just want to be happy. Black or White, rich or poor, theres little that differentiates us when it comes to wanting to experience joy and a sense of being settled in this journey called life. But is it quite so easy to experience this kind of fulfillment by reading a couple of selfhelp books, self-willing ourselves to thinking we are satisfied, or drowning the sorrows of life in promiscuity, recklessness, drug and alcohol abuse, time-fillers, or being a workaholic? These things only tend to bring folks right back to the starting point of where they originated--unfulfilled, hopeless, disturbed, anxious, and /or on the path of self-destruction. Many of us

know this place well, as we may have used certain things in our own lives to be the fulfillment that never truly satisfied us and only resulted in those things contrary to peace confusion, havoc, and many nights where weve wrestled with the agony of where our lives had ended up. In hindsight, we may ask ourselves, why did I think that I could obtain peace in my own ways and methods? Jesus expounds on peace in John 14: 27, as he promised to give it to us in a way that was unconventional and outside of our comfort zonesI do not give peace to you as the world gives. The peace of God is incomparable to anything we could ever look for, work for, purchase, sleep with, drink, inject, or inhale. And it is only when we have peace with God (Romans 5:1) that we can have the peace of God (Philippians 4:7).

As believers of God, will we have trouble? Will we experience disappointments and hardship? Absolutely. But its nothing like going through the challenges of life with a God who has not left us alone to figure it out ourselves. We no longer have to carry the burdens and pressures of this earthly life when our foundation is rooted in Jesus Christ alone. How fortunate are we to have his Spirit imparted in us and the Word of God (the Bible) available to us as a guide to how we can live at peace in a world that seems to be void of it.
