METHOD STATEMENT FOR MAINTAINED LOAD TEST ON THE INSTRUMENTED PRELIMINARY TEST PILE
1. INTRODUCTION

This method statement describes the method involved to carry out maintained load test on the Instrumented Preliminary Test Pile for The Proposed Jakim Development of Highrise Office Building at Precinct 3, Wilayah Persekutuan, Putrajaya. The pile has a nominal diameter of 1350 mm with the estimated bored depth of 26.75 m from the platform level RL27.50. The estimated effective pile length shall be 18.25 m whereas a portion of it (5 m) shall be socketted into rock (sandstone or siltstone). The pile will be tested to 2.75 times of working load of 10735 kN or equivalent to 29521 kN. The location of the preliminary test pile shall be as per Appendix A. The main objective of the instrumented load test is to establish parameters for the design of working piles which are to constructed in soil strata having similar geological structure and adopting similar construction practices or to be more specific: 1. To determine/confirm the bearing capacity of bored pile and its apportionment in shaft friction and end bearing. 2. To evaluate the design parameters in relation to the ultimate skin friction and end bearing. 3. To study the behavior of pile settlement and structural shortening of the pile under the applied load. The load-settlement relationship, the distribution of axial load along the pile and the load transfer characteristic of the pile will be presented and discussed in the test pile report. Results will be presented both in tabulated and graphical format for easy reference.

2. DE-BONDING Prior to the loading test, soil around the piles shaft above the piles cut off level shall be loosen to remove the friction between the soil and the piles shaft. Refer to Appendix G for de-bonding method.

3. DETAILS AND DESCRIPTION OF INSTRUMENTED TEST PILE Refer to Appendix B.

4. TEST LOADING PROCEDURE MAINTAINED LOAD TEST 4.1. Loading Maintained Load Test 1st Cycle The load shall be applied from zero to working load, at increment of 25% of working load, at interval of 30 minutes. At working load, load shall be maintained for 12 hours or until the settlement is less than 0.25mm/hr and decreasing, whichever is longer. 2nd Cycle From zero to 1.0 times of working load, the load shall be applied at increment of 50% of working load at interval of 30 minutes. From 1.0 times of working load to 2 times of working load, the load shall be applied at increment of 25% of working load at interval 30 minutes. At 2 times of working load, the load shall be maintained for 12 hours or until the settlement is less than 0.25mm/hr and decreasing, whichever is longer. 3rd Cycle From zero to 2 times of working load, the load shall be applied at increment of 50% of working load at interval 30 minutes. From 2 times to 2.75 times of working load, the load shall be applied at increment of 25% of working load at interval of 30 minutes. At 2.75 times of working load, the load shall be maintained for 24 hours or until the settlement is less than 0.25mm/hr and decreasing, whichever is longer.

Reading during loading process for all cycles shall be taken at 15 minutes interval except for their peak loads (1, 2, and 2.75 times of working load) where reading shall be taken at 1 hour interval. 4.2. Unloading Maintained Load Test In every cycle, unloading can only be carried out after the settlement/recovery has been stabilized whereby the displacement does not exceed 0.25mm per hour.

METHOD STATEMENT FOR MAINTAINED LOAD TEST ON THE INSTRUMENTED PRELIMINARY TEST PILE

Unloading from test load to zero shall be carried out in stages as at loading but at decrement of 50% of the working load every 30 minutes interval. Holding time for complete unloading (0% working load) shall be 1 hour or until the rate of recovery is less than 0.25mm/hr, whichever is longer. Reading shall be taken at 15 minutes interval throughout the unloading exercise except for 0% unloading whereas reading shall be taken at 30 minutes interval.
