Welcome to Photography I

You will be learning the fundamentals of photography through the use of cameras and other photography equipment. You will be introduced to digital photography through the use of Adobe Photoshop. *All Students must have a 35mm SLR camera or use school cameras. School cameras have limited availability. Lab fees will be incurred.

What will I need?

5 rolls Kodak TX400 or Kodak TMax 400 Black & White Negative or Ilford 400 Black & White Negative. This can be purchased at: CVS in Bonkers or Hannaford plazas Rit Camera Amazon.com or PHphoto.com 1 inch binder 2+ GB Flash Drive

What is expected of me and my classmates?


Come to Class ON TIME: 4 tardies = 1 absence Come to Class EVERYDAY: 3 absences will result in your grade being dropped by one letter grade. 9 absences = failure for the semester. No excuses or appeals except for serious illness. All make-up work must be completed within 10 days or you will receive a zero. Respect the Classroom: You will be working with expensive, professional equipment and chemicals. Therefore it is important that we take care of the classroom and its materials. You should follow all instructions and act responsibly. You will be held accountable for damages to any equipment while it is in your care. NO Food or Drinks: Its a health hazard! Put ALL BELONGINGS under the enlarger tables: Backpacks, purses, and books need to be out of the way. NO TEXTING in class. If I see or hear a cell phone it will be taken away and will not be returned until the end of the school day. Follow all directions during EVACUATIONS AND LOCKDOWNS: During evacuations it is important to stay with the class. If separated you must find me to check-in. CLEAN UP after yourself: You will not be allowed to leave the classroom until everything is cleaned up. The bell does not dismiss you, I do.

How will I be graded?

20% Quizzes 50% Projects 20% Class Participation (attendance, participation in class discussions, use of class time) 10% Homework, Sub Assignments

What if I miss an assignment or turn it in late?

ALL assignments must be turned in on time. 5 Points will be deducted every day that an assignment is late. Late assignments will not be accepted more than a week after the original due date and will result in a zero for the project.

What projects will we do?

Lesson 1: Pinhole Cameras: How does a pinhole camera work? How do photographers use it to take photos? Lesson 2: Photograms: How do artists create interesting compositions? Lesson 3: Point of View: How does the artists vantage point change the object that they are photographing?
