Thermal Treatment Under Thermal Treatment, an Anaerobic Thermal Desorption Unit (ATDU) is used to remove volatile compounds from

inert solids using an indirectly heated, rotary drum. Contaminated soil is introduced into the ATDU via a double tipping valve (DTV) where waste is heated to a temperature (>850-900oC) to completely volatilize the hydrocarbons and water. The condensed liquid is then sent to the oil/water separator for further treatment (separation of oil and water). The cooled, clean, drill cuttings now meet the treatment criteria of less than 10,000 mg/l total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) and can be placed in drums for future disposal.

Mechanical Treatment Methodology Mechanical Treatment process employs high pressure pump & Adiabatic Expansion Valve (AEV) whereby high-pressure water jetting facilitates separation of oil particles from sand. The treatment technology employed is a unique environment friendly process based on physical treatment by washing the material with high pressure water jets and does not involve any chemicals. The process also incorporates wastewater recycling to save on the water consumption and recovery of free-product that floats on the surface of the slurry formed in the sand washing technique. AETS has practical experience of using Sand Washing Technique in PDO operated Zauliah 16 cleanup project.
