Curriculum CornerFocus for the Week ReadingBeginning of the year reading assessments will continue this week. We will be focusing on the genre of drama and comparing original text to their dramatic adaptation. WritingWe will continue focusing on personal narratives. Writing seed stories versus writing watermelon stories. Our focus is to get the kids to focus their stories on one thing and describing it in detail. Social StudiesWe will be learning about regions in the United States and using elevation maps.

Routines

Homework folder should be returned daily (dont forget to sign the reading logremember your child is required to read at least 20 minutes daily. Thursday Folders should be retuned on Friday with any completed paperwork. Graded papers will go home in Thursday folders. Your child may correct any assignment below a 70 and return it by the following Tuesday. The Team Zecca News goes home on Mondays and it has your childs spelling list and homework for the week. This Team Zecca Report is emailed on Mondays to all parents/guardians.

Bits and Pieces


AttendancePlease remember to send a note to school following any absence. SnackPlease remember to pack a snack everyday. Lunch is not until 12:08 and working

brains need some refueling in between. Class snack is not provided and is the responsibility of individual students.
Transportation ChangesIt is required that I have direct written or verbal

communication regarding any change in transportation. Students will be sent with their regular transportation without notification from a parent/guardian. Please try to make any changes before 1 pm. Please call the office directly at 512-414-2537 with a transportation change as I do not always get to check phone messages or emails.
Homework FoldersHomework folders come home daily. Your child is required to read

at least 20 minutes a day and record what they read in their reading log and requires a parent signature. Homework is assigned by the fifth grade teachers 2-3 times a week. Homework is due the day after it is assigned. You can check my website at www.teamzecca.weebly.com for homework assigned in my Language Arts class. Homework can also be printed from there (only for Language Arts).
