1a. What are the roles of teachers in society?

The role of teachers in society is to be a working role model for students in the classroom. A teacher should be able to create relationships with the children in his/her classroom because they are going to be together than most children are with their parents. Teachers are responsible for instilling the knowledge in their students that will prepare them for an educated citizenry and the next grade level, or perhaps a college or career. 1b. How does society view the role of teachers? Society expects a teacher to have good morals and values because each parent trusts the teachers with their children. In the bar graph shown in the power point, teachers are known to benefit society more than any other profession because they are expected to mold the lives of the children they come in contact with in a classroom. 2. What are some of the things teachers have to deal with? Teachers in todays society have to deal with children that misbehave very often and most times, a teacher has no authority over them and cannot change their problems. Many teachers feel like they do not get paid enough to deal with these children, therefore they leave the profession to seek a higher paying job. Also, many teachers do not have the resources for teachings the kids in their classes or the school systems are in terrible shape.

3a. What do you believe is changing in todays education? From what Ive heard, not all that long ago, students were severely disciplined at school from their teachers. However, now the teacher will be severely punished if he/she even tries to show a student the proper way to act in a classroom. Also, special education has been enforced in schools all over the United States and are held to most of the same standards are children without needs based on their conditions. They are no longer turned down by schools because the school does not have appropriated resources for that child. Children now are being tested all of the time on the things they are supposed to be taught in order to decide whether or not the educational system in a specific region is up to par with the rest of the country.

3b.How will you deal with the changes? Teachers in todays society must decide for themselves the appropriate precautions to take when punishing a child for their wrongdoing. Many teachers resort to the color changers in classrooms to warn and then punish the student with a time out, and I believe that is a good idea. Sometimes a kid may not know they are misbehaving, which is why a teacher is there to enforce the rules. Also I believe that all teachers must cater to their students needs. A teacher should not be allowed to disregard a problem a child is having only because the rest of the class isnt having the same problem. Teachers are given set guidelines by the state to determine what materials need to be addressed in a classroom, so they should not stray from the rules administered to them, unless they absolutely believe it is necessary to proceed. 4. Did you have a teacher who motivated you or inspired you in some way? I have had many teachers in school who have motivated me in many different ways. My junior year of high school I had my first real taste of chemistry. It was a terribly hard class, and I was certain I wouldnt make it out with anything more than a C, which Id never received in my life. My teacher was one of the scariest women on the face of the planet, and she wasnt afraid to be stern with my classmates. However, her method of teaching and her you can do anything, even if you think you cant attitude toward us inspired me to prove her right, with a big fat A in the hardest, most confusing classes Ive ever had to take. Thanks to her, I never gave up and continued down my straight and narrow path of studying and homework every evening, ALL evening long from August to January. I made a B instead of an A, but Ive never been more proud of a grade in my life.
