Cluster Description
Welcome to a world of tales! Legends, tall tales, and the study of folklore will captivate your mind and imagination. Folktales from the old world will inspire you to recreate and develop your own stories using modern day technology tools. Do you like to get your hands dirty? If so, this is the cluster for you! We will get down and dirty, but not too crazy! Learn about WHERE food comes and help plant our very own garden at Irwin! We will learn about compost, make signs for the food we are growing and enjoy edible delights from our garden. Our culminating activity will be a brief cooking demonstration so we can see how all of this gardening work translates into TASTY FOOD! Weve got spirit, yes we do! Weve got spirit! How bout you? Learn a cheer dance routine and show off your basic tumbling skills by being a member of the Owl Squad. Students will show off their moves and work within a group while creating a visual display of dance, cheer, and gymnastics. Be a part of the best squad there is the OWL SQUAD! Extra, extra! Write all about it! Who has the scoop on whats going on!? This cluster will have you writing, reporting, and snapping photos of life at Irwin! You will help to create another edition of the Irwin Inquirer by collaborating with your fellow scholars. Watch outthis cluster is hot off the presses! Please note that this is a K-5 cluster and will be open to students in all levels (K-1, 2-3, and 4-5.) Get ready to be a part of a Spanish sculpture symposium! Spain is a fabulous country filled with incredible sculptures and well-known artists. Now, you have the chance to learn these proven sculpture techniques! From perfect paper mache projects to amazing architecture, you are sure to make a museum of memorable art! Were loony for Legos! Were bonkers for building! Join in on the fun as we create 3-D Lego products. We want others to catch the insanity too so well even include how to writing pieces with our crazy creations. Lets get nutty, Lego lunatics! Move over, Martha Stewart! These kids are the next generation of crafty connoisseurs. We will create various arts and crafts products using different mediums. Grab your glue and gusto, add your best ideas and inspirations because were getting crafty up in here! Snot! Sour milk! Bacteria! If this stuff doesnt gross you out then this is the cluster for you! We will complete a collection of nasty activities, disgusting experiments, and plain old messes. During Gross Science youll explore fascinating subjects but all the glop, slop, and stink arent just gross- its science, too! Build up your sports skills! We will play different team sports, like ultimate Frisbee, kickball, basketball, and track. We will also learn to perform a routine that incorporates both music and basketballs! Come prepared to move and have fun! Are you a BYOT geek? Do you want to spend more time on technology? Then, youve got to join the BYOT Cluster! We will highlight apps of the week, both educational and fun. You will explore these apps and even write reviews to share with the school! We will problem solve All activities will involve hands-on exploration and opportunities for mathematical thinking, problem solving, and communication. Please note that this is a BYOT cluster and participants are encouraged to bring their own mobile device. Are you mad about science!? Do you wonder about the world around you? This is the cluster for all scientistsin-training! Lets hypothesize and put our observational skills to the test! We will use the Scientific Method as we explore and experiment! Do you like to get your hands dirty? If so, this is the cluster for you! We will get down and dirty, but not too crazy! Learn about WHERE food comes and help plant our very own garden at Irwin! We will learn about compost, make signs for the food we are growing and enjoy edible delights from our garden. Our culminating activity will be a brief cooking demonstration so we can see how all of this gardening work translates into TASTY FOOD! This cluster combines reading and eating! Tickle your taste buds and use your imagination. We will enjoy tasty treats while reading! You will listen and respond to different picture books and then create a snack based on the theme/characters/main idea of the story. Our final product will consist of a cluster cook book complete with student-created recipes based on a favorite book! If you are not afraid of an audience and have a big personality, then this is just the cluster for you! This cluster is all about theater, movement, and FUN! We will record our travels by writing postcards and track our travels on a map. We will have plenty of worldly adventures! Calling all animal lovers! Prepare to learn all about animals around the world and their habitats. The final product will display many different types of arts & crafts and writing pieces that students produce within the six week cluster period. Do you like to get your hands dirty? If so, this is the cluster for you! We will get down and dirty, but not too crazy! Learn about WHERE food comes and help plant our very own garden at Irwin! We will learn about compost, make signs for the food we are growing and enjoy edible delights from our garden. Come and explore the perplexing world of puzzles! Challenge your mind by solving and creating different types of puzzles. In this cluster you will be able to create your own picture and then transform it into your very own puzzle! This cluster will have you solving and sleuthing! Put your creative skills to the test by creating things you can wear! Lets explore jewelry styles from other cultures and try to mimic their style! We will use beads, recycled products, and paper to create jewelry and accessories that we can wear. We will create amazing accessories for superheroes and princesses, too!
