Davis Watson 5th bell God in Literature

God has always been and will always be included in literature. From the beginning of time God has been referenced in literature or the central theme of literature. The Christians Holy Bible is a book dating back to the beginning of mankind that is sort of a manual about who and what God is. The bible is not the only book that references God though. There are multiple books that depict the grace and glory of God in their dialog and plot. God is so important in life that even popular literature has mentioned Him and written books around the idea of God. Therefore, God is on even the best writers mind and has had enough influence on them that they in effect have written about his greatness. God has been talked about in literature since man first started writing. He has been written about since the time when Moses in all likelihood recorded the Torah, in the PaleoHebrew script; this script was nearly identical with the Early Phoenician script. (Bible). This means that God has been written about since before 1500 B. C. which is near the start of man. The Bible is the main book that writes primarily about God in its Literature. The Bible tells the story of how man came to be and how He wants man to act. Christians even base their whole religion off of what the Holy Bible preaches. Carm.Org Defines the Bible like this: The Bible is a collection of 66 books written by about 40 authors, in three different languages, on three different continents, over approximately 1600 years. The Bible claims to be

inspired and inerrant. This means that the Bible claims to be from God and that it is without error in everything it addresses. (Slick) When authors read this sacred book they can learn how authors from the beginning of time wrote and can be influenced by their passion towards their God through their writing. Therefore, writers today might feel the same passion for God as the people that wrote the bible and decide to put God in their stories as well. Because authors have a passion for God and conclude on putting God in their stories, there are various books that mention God and/or have their plot based around God. In fact, Henri Nouwen was so moved by a book in the bible that he wrote about a story from the bible. He wrote The Return of the Prodigal Son: A Story of Homecoming and published it on May 1, 1994. Amazon says that the book is This powerful meditation illuminates the parable of the prodigal son found in Luke s Gospel. Nouwen discovers anew the reality that God s love is unconditional and shares his own spiritual journey with us. (Amazon) This is a prime example of how God touched the heart of an author that led him to write a book from a story in the Bible. God has even been mentioned in Books that have high prestige and are even on top selling list. Dr. Eben Alexander was touched to write a book for the glory of God and was very successful in doing so. His book Proof of Heaven is number one on Amazon.com for Eschatology, Science and Religion, and Occult. (Amazon, Amazon.com)The book is about how a neuro scientist, like every other scientist, believes that dreams may feel real but in reality are just fantasies. But one day after he went into a coma and met God and was saved through this encounter and wrote a book on it. Even doctors write books about how great and powerful God is.

God is in the oldest, newest, most popular and least popular books. God can be seen throughout literature in the past and present which shows that God has effected every generation on the Earth. He has touched the souls of authors and used them for His greater good through their books and writing skills. God always has been and always will be included in literature.
