THE ADVANCED AIRPLANE HAS THE INTERIOR FORWARD AIRSTAIRS CONTROL PANEL ABOVE THE FORWARD ENTRY DOOR AND FORWARD OF THE ATTENDANT'S OXYGEN COMPARTMENT.

MENU PRINCIPAL

ON THE ADVANCED AIRPLANE, THE SWITCH THAT OPERATES THE STEP LIGHTS IS LOCATED ON THIS CONTROL PANEL.

MENU PRINCIPAL

THE CONFIGURATION FOR THE BASIC AIRPLANE HAS THE FORWARD AIRSTAIRS CONTROL PANEL ABOVE THE FORWARD ENTRY DOOR, BUT IS LOCATED AFT OF THE PORTABLE EMERGENCY EXIT LIGHTS. THE PANELS ARE THE SAME, EXCEPT THERE IS NO SWITCH FOR THE STEPLIGHTS.

THE SWITCH FOR OPERATING THE STEP LIGHTS IS ON THE LOWER LEFT CORNER OF THE FORWARD ATTENDANT'S PANEL. THE FORWARD ATTENDANT'S PANEL IS LOCATED ON THE WINDSCREEN AS YOU ENTER THE PASSENGER CABIN.

THE STANDBY MODE IS A BACK-UP IN THE EVENT OF FAILURE OF THE STAIRS TO RETRACT OR EXTEND IN THE NORMAL MODE. ON AIRPLANE 701, WHEN USING THE STANDBY MODE ONLY, AC POWER IS NOT REQUIRED. HOWEVER, THE BATTERY SWITCH MUST BE ON. ON ALL OTHER BASIC AIRPLANES, AC POWER IS REQUIRED FOR BOTH NORMAL AND STANDBY MODES, WHEN USING THE INTERIOR CONTROL PANEL.

THE EXTERIOR CONTROL HANDLE, FOR THE FORWARD AIRSTAIRS, IS IN THE SAME LOCATION ON BOTH THE ADVANCED AND BASIC AIRPLANES. THE OPERATION IS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT WHEN OPERATING IN THE STANDBY MODE, FOR BASIC AIRPLANES 701, AND 702.

FOR BASIC AIRPLANE 703 THROUGH 707, AND ON THE ADVANCED AIRPLANE, A SWITCH TO OPERATE IN THE STANDBY MODE IS LOCATED WITHIN THE CONTROL PANEL RECESS, AND IS SPRING LOADED TO THE NORMAL POSITION. THE NORMAL POSITION REQUIRES BOTH AC AND DC POWER. THE STANDBY POSITION REQUIRES DC POWER ONLY, AND THE BATTERY SWITCH MAY BE ON OR OFF.

THE CONFIGURATION FOR THE BASIC AIRPLANES SEVEN OH ONE AND SEVEN OH TWO, HAS TWO POSITIONS IN BOTH EXTEND AND RETRACT. FOR EXTENDING OR RETRACTING THE AIRSTAIRS WITH NO AC POWER IT IS NECESSARY TO GO BEYOND THE NORMAL DETENT TO THE STANDBY POSITION, WHICH REQUIRES ADDITIONAL FORCE. WHILE IN THIS POSITION, BATTERY POWER IS USED TO RAISE OR LOWER THE FORWARD AIRSTAIRS. (pause4) NOW, LET'S EXAMINE THE CREW AND PASSENGER OXYGEN SYSTEMS.

THE PASSENGER OXYGEN SYSTEMS ARE VIRTUALLY THE SAME ON BOTH AIRPLANES, WITH ONLY MINOR DIFFERENCES IN THE TYPE OF PASSENGER SERVICE UNIT INSTALLED.

THE CREW OXYGEN SYSTEM ON THE ADVANCED AIRPLANE HAS A COMBINED MASKREGULATOR ASSEMBLY CONSISTING OF A HEADPIECE AND A FACE PIECE. THE FACE PIECE CONTAINS A REGULATOR, SUPPLY HOSE, AND MICROPHONE.

MENU PRINCIPAL

EACH OF THE FOUR CONTROL PANELS HAS A TWO POSITION [']ON AND [`]OFF SUPPLY LEVER. THE RECEPTACLE FOR CONNECTING THE OXYGEN MASK, AND THE MICROPHONE JACK, ARE ADJACENT TO THE SUPPLY LEVER. REVIEW THE PROCEDURE FOR CHECKING THE OXYGEN SYSTEM IN YOUR OPERATIONS MANUAL.

ON EARLY AIRPLANES, A QUICK DONNING MASK IS STOWED BELOW EACH REGULATOR. THE MASK ASSEMBLY CONSISTS OF A HEAD PIECE, AND A FACE PIECE. THE FACE PIECE CONTAINS A SUPPLY HOSE AND MICROPHONE.

THERE ARE FOUR CREW OXYGEN REGULATORS IN THE COCKPIT; ONE ABOVE EACH PILOT'S SEAT, AND ONE EACH FOR THE TWO OBSERVERS. WHEN THE CREW SHUT-OFF VALVE IS OPEN, OXYGEN FLOWS TO EACH REGULATOR. THE SUPPLY LEVER HAS TWO POSITIONS, ON AND OFF. THE LEVER MUST BE ON BEFORE ANY OXYGEN CAN FLOW THROUGH THE REGULATOR. A WHITE FLOAT TYPE INDICATOR, ABOVE THE EMERGENCY LEVER, GIVES VISUAL ASSURANCE THAT OXYGEN IS FLOWING THROUGH THE REGULATOR. THE OXYGEN DILUTER LEVER HAS TWO POSITIONS: 100 PER CENT, AND NORMAL. WITH THE SUPPLY LEVER ON, BELOW TWENTY-SEVEN THOUSAND FEET, THE NORMAL POSITION PROVIDES A MIXTURE OF COCKPIT AIR AND OXYGEN. ABOVE TWENTY-SEVEN THOUSAND FEET, THE NORMAL POSITION PROVIDES 100% OXYGEN UNDER PRESSURE. WITH THE SUPPLY LEVER OFF, THE NORMAL POSITION PROVIDES ONLY COCKPIT AIR TO THE MASK. THE 100% POSITION PROVIDES PURE OXYGEN AT ALL FLIGHT LEVELS. A QUANTITY INDICATOR, ABOVE THE SUPPLY LEVER, INDICATES THE QUANTITY REMAINING IN THE CYLINDER WHEN THE SUPPLY LEVER IS PLACED TO THE ON POSITION.

THE EMERGENCY LEVER HAS THREE POSITIONS; EMERGENCY, NORMAL, AND TEST MASK. WHEN THE LEVER IS IN THE EMERGENCY POSITION, THE REGULATOR PROVIDES A CONTINUOUS FLOW OF 100% OXYGEN UNDER PRESSURE. IN THE NORMAL POSITION, THE OXYGEN DILUTER LEVER CONTROLS THE MIXTURE. THE TEST MASK POSITION IS USED TO CHECK THE SYSTEM AND WILL SUPPLY 100% OXYGEN UNDER PRESSURE WHEN IN THE TEST MASK POSITION. REVIEW THE PROCEDURES FOR CHECKING YOUR OXYGEN MASK AND REGULATOR. THIS PROCEDURE IS LISTED IN CHAPTER 3, NORMAL PROCEDURES.

ON BOTH AIRPLANES, THE PORTABLE CREW OXYGEN CYLINDER IS LOCATED BEHIND THE FIRST OFFICER'S SEAT. THE BASIC AIRPLANES DO NOT HAVE THE FULL FACE MASK. THE QUICK DISCONNECT OXYGEN MASK COUPLING IS PROVIDED WITH DEMAND, AND CONSTANT FLOW, OUTLETS. (pause4) NOW, LET'S LOOK AT THE LIGHTING DIFFERENCES.

ON THE ADVANCED AIRPLANES, CONTROL CABIN LIGHTING INCLUDES TWO WHITE DOME LIGHTS THAT PROVIDE GENERAL ILLUMINATION. THE SWITCH, LOCATED ON THE AFT OVERHEAD PANEL, IS A THREE POSITION SWITCH MARKED DIM, [`]OFF AND BRIGHT.

MENU PRINCIPAL

WITH THE BATTERY SWITCH IN THE ON POSITION, POWER IS AVAILABLE FOR THE TWO WHITE DOME LIGHTS LOCATED NEAR THE CEILING IN THE CONTROL CABIN.

THE BASIC OR EARLY 737 AIRPLANES HAVE TWO WHITE AND TWO RED DOME LIGHTS FOR GENERAL LIGHTING AND DIFFUSED ILLUMINATION. THE WHITE DOME LIGHTS ARE CONTROLLED BY AN ON-OFF SWITCH LOCATED ON THE AFT OVERHEAD PANEL. THE VARIABLE INTENSITY CONTROL FOR THE RED DOME LIGHTS IS MARKED DOME RED.

THE RED DOME LIGHTS ARE NEAR THE CEILING OF THE CONTROL CABIN, AND ADJACENT TO THE WHITE DOME LIGHTS.

THE ADVANCED AIRPLANES HAVE HIGH INTENSITY STROBE LIGHTS MOUNTED ON EACH WING TIP, FORWARD OF THE RED AND GREEN POSITION LIGHTS. A TAIL STROBE LIGHT IS MOUNTED ABOVE THE APU EXHAUST. THE STROBE LIGHTS FLASH AT ONE SECOND INTERVALS. THE LIGHTS ARE CONTROLLED BY A THREE POSITION SWITCH MARKED STROBE AND STEADY, OFF, AND STEADY, LOCATED ON THE FORWARD OVERHEAD PANEL. PLACING THE POSITION SWITCH TO STROBE AND STEADY, TURNS ON THE STROBE LIGHTS AND THE FIXED COLORED NAVIGATION LIGHTS. PLACING THE POSITION SWITCH TO STEADY, TURNS ON THE COLORED NAVIGATION LIGHTS, AND THE TWO WHITE, TRAILING EDGE, WINGTIP LIGHTS.

ON THE BASIC AIRPLANES, WITHOUT THE HIGH INTENSITY STROBE LIGHTS, A THREE POSITION SWITCH LABELED POSITION, FIXED, OFF, AND OSCILLATING AND FIXED, CONTROLS THE NAVIGATION LIGHTS. THE LIGHTS CONSIST OF A COLORED LIGHT ON EACH WING TIP, ONE FIXED AND ONE OSCILLATING. WHITE LIGHTS ARE MOUNTED ON EACH WING TIP TRAILING EDGE, AND A WHITE OSCILLATING TAIL LIGHT ON THE AFT END OF THE FUSELAGE. THESE AIRPLANES HAVE NO NOSE GEAR TAXI LIGHT INSTALLED. POSITIONING THE SWITCH TO FIXED, OR OSCILLATING AND FIXED, TURNS ON THE FIXED NAVIGATION LIGHTS. THE OSCILLATING LIGHT IS ALSO TURNED ON WHEN OSCILLATING AND FIXED IS SELECTED. NOW, LET'S LOOK AT THE PRE-RECORDED ANNOUNCEMENT OPERATION.

THE ADVANCED AIRPLANE HAS THE PRE-RECORDED ANNOUNCEMENT PANEL ADJACENT TO THE FORWARD ATTENDANT'S PANEL. THE PANEL AND BASIC OPERATION IS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT TO THAT IN THE BASIC AIRPLANE. THE AUTOMATED PA ANNOUNCEMENT SYSTEM IS CAPABLE OF 24 DIFFERENT ANNOUNCEMENTS. FROM THE CONTROL PANEL, THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT CAN SELECT 23 OF THE 24 ANNOUNCEMENTS. ANNOUNCEMENT A1, RAPID DECOMPRESSION, IS ACTIVATED AUTOMATICALLY BE A PRESSURE SWITCH IN THE PASSENGER OXYGEN SYSTEM. IT CANNOT BE SELECTED.

ON THE BASIC AIRPLANES, SWITCH NUMBER ONE IS THE EMERGENCY ANNOUNCEMENT THAT WILL BEGIN AUTOMATICALLY WHEN THE PASSENGER CABIN ALTITUDE EXCEEDS 10,000 FEET, AND WILL RESET IF THE CABIN ALTITUDE DECREASES BELOW 10,000 FEET. THE EMERGENCY ANNOUNCEMENT ILLUMINATES RED WHEN ACTIVATED AUTOMATICALLY, OR IT MAY BE SELECTED MANUALLY. ONCE THE EMERGENCY ANNOUNCEMENT BEGINS, THE CANCEL SWITCH IS INOPERATIVE. HOWEVER THE PA SYSTEM CAN BE USED TO OVERRIDE AND CANCEL THE ANNOUNCEMENT.

ON THE ADVANCED 737 AIRPLANES, EACH LAVATORY IS PROTECTED AGAINST FIRE BY AN EXTINGUISHER THAT AUTOMATICALLY DISCHARGES FREON GAS WHEN EXPOSED TO ABNORMALLY HIGH TEMPERATURES. THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER IS LOCATED BENEATH THE WASH BASIN IN EACH OF THE LAVATORIES. ON THE BASIC 737 AIRPLANES, THERE ARE NO FIRE EXTINGUISHERS IN THE LAVATORIES.
