EdAd 5912 Supervision of Teachers and School Staff

Course Description: This course includes applications and philosophies of supervision of teachers / principals, staff development, motivation, attention to diversity, evaluation, Minnesota teacher tenure rules and processes for hiring and for dismissal, interpersonal communications, and human resource management.
Meeting dates are Sundays: September 19, October 24, November 21. Noon - 6:30

Hiring Assignment: Establish a list of


suggestions for improving the hiring of candidates in your district after reading the assignments. Include 10 specific items that can improve the candidate quality for your hiring process.

Which ones were accepted and which ones rejected or modified for better fit? You should have an outline of your current practices, the potential changes mapped to the current practices, and suggestions as to whether your changes are considered potentially adopted. This is a beginning for your final assignment.

Instructional Plan: This course will include the following topics: 1. Planning for evaluation and assessment of teachers and staff 2. Evaluation for tenure vs non - tenured teacher 3. Remediation and intervention 4. Peer supervision, action research, mentorship, and professional development cycles 5. Hiring and dismissal 6. Relationships and expectations with union, school board, and central administration regarding supervision 7. Supervision of non-certified staff 8. Effective consultation, counseling, and motivation techniques 9. Observations and 360 Portfolios/ SMART goals for teachers 10.
