Charlotte Kratus Karen Sullivan Joy Williams May 2012 Staff Development Foldables Journal Writing Literature Use

e in Classroom

In this staff development, we plan to model and give examples of how a teacher might use foldables, journal writing, and literature in the math classroom. Each activity can add variety and value to the classroom, but each takes valuable time planning and implementing, and of course may not be applicable to every lesson every day. But as all teachers become aware, the more ideas we can gather, the more options we might have to hold the students attention while teaching the curriculum. Supplies needed: paper for foldables, (some preparation may be needed), paper, pencils (for journal writing), book to read to class and whatever might be needed to follow and participate in reading. Handouts for participants: copies of presentation, instructions/ideas for foldables, journal ideas list. (Presenters will provide stickers or prizes for participants.) Equipment needed: If using presentation from powerpoint, projector and computer will be needed. Document camera to project information on screen could be useful. If technology is not available, presentation could still be guided by presenters.
