Daughters of the American Revolution Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It How does ones personal heritage affect ones duties to our nation? I feel if that the mix of heritages is what makes our nation the United States of America, the land of the free and home of the brave. To have this mix provides cultural diversity and keeps our nation interesting. To have a monoculture society would leave no room for following in what you believe in. That is why there are always people of different backgrounds migrating over to the United States. Our nation was made to bring together people of all sorts in a multicultural society where you are not bounded by religious beliefs or your peoples tradition. Here in America, you are not limited by the expectations of your people. More and more people are of different races and cultures are reaching higher heights in our society. A hundred years ago, no one wouldve thought that our nation would be led by an African American, but here today we have Barack Obama sitting in the Oval Office. No one would have thought that a migrant worker would be in an executive seat of a global corporation. Focusing on different heritages within our nation, people are raised up differently. Its the life they were brought up in. The heritage we grow up in plays a huge role in how we think and function. The way a person with a Texas heritage could have a different idea of repaying their country than a person would with a New York heritage. For example, a native Texan decides to enroll in our military. Thats what the people of our military fight for. They fight for the way of life in this country. The people who choose to serve our country do it not only to protect their loved ones, but to also preserve what our nation stands for. Then theres the New Yorker who goes into office, defending and enforcing our constitution. Whether its serving in the military or serving in our government, we are all preserving the same thing. What that is the pursuit of happiness. In this country, you get out what you put into your life. Here in America, everyone can reach their ideal goals. A place we all work together to continue to make this a functional and more prosperous nation. (400 words)
