August 25, 2013 Dear Student, I am happy to welcome you to Geometry Honors!

I am looking forward to an exciting new year where we will be expanding our mathematical knowledge as we explore the world of geometry. My philosophy as an educator is to foster a positive learning environment in my classroom built upon respect. To facilitate an effective learning environment, I expect for each of my students to exhibit respect for each other as well as for the teacher. A set of class expectations are posted in the classroom as a reminder for you of what is expected; they are the five Bs of the classroom: Be prompt Be prepared Be positive Be productive Be polite In order to be prepared, it is necessary that you check the course website every night. If internet access is limited I can provide accommodations. The website can be accessed at the following address: http://ufteachpbigiovagnoli.weebly.com/ Posted on the website every night, including the weekends, is the course homework and announcements. If for some reason you miss class, you can check the course website for the worksheets and activities completed in class on that particular day, and you are expected to make up any missed work. You will have as many days to make up the work as you were absent. Absences and tardiness to class, as well dress code violations and behavioral misconduct will be handled in line with the schools rules and regulations, outlined in the Student Code of Conduct. Your course grade will be determined based on your performance and participation. Homework, tests, quizzes, and in-class participation (including classwork and attendance) will all factor into your final grade. Tests and quizzes are sixty-percent of your grade, homework twenty percent, and participation twenty percent. I will be sending home letters to your parents or legal guardians updating them on any exciting new projects, field trips, or upcoming activities planned during the course of this year. I also look forward to meeting them at open house on Thursday, September 27. As an additional note, we are in need of new white boards in our classroom. Any donations from family, friends, or businesses would be exponentially appreciated! I have high expectations for your performance in my class, and I will do all that I can to help you achieve those expectations. If at any time you, your parents, or guardians have questions or concerns feel free to contact me at my email: nicole.giovagnoli@gmail.com. I am looking forward to getting to know you, and I know that this is going to be a great year!
*Please discuss this letter with your parents or legal guardians and have it signed and returned to me by Monday, August 30

Sincerely, Nicole Giovagnoli _____________________________ Parent Signature ____________________ Date
