Acceptable Use Policy

Dear parents or guardians, This acceptable use policy is designed to keep your children safe while using computers in the classroom, as well as providing fun and new learning experiences for them. Below is a parent/guardian contract agreement for you to sign. This contract lets me know that my students parents/guardians are behind me in carrying out the rules for computer and internet use in my classroom. Together we can provide a healthy and safe learning environment for the children. Thanks, Mrs. Smart

Parent/Guardian Contract Agreement: As the parent or guardian of__________________, I have read and hereby agree to the acceptable use policy used in Mrs. Smarts second grade classroom. I understand that the rules set forth for the students are designed to keep students safe while using the computers and searching the internet. I also understand that computer usage is designed to create a more diverse learning experience for students. I recognize that it is nearly impossible to control access to all controversial material on the web; therefore I will not hold the school or its employees responsible for the materials found on the web. I hereby give my permission for my child to use the computer according to the guidelines listed. Computer Rules
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Students are only allowed to be on the computer if it is free time, or he or she has permission from me. Before logging onto a computer, students must sign their names on the log-on sheet. Students are only allowed 20 minutes of computer time, unless told otherwise. There should only be one student at a computer at once. Students must treat the computers with care.

Internet Rules
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. If on the internet, students are only allowed to be on educational websites, and/or educational games. While on the internet do not download anything to the computer. While on the internet do not save anything to the computer. While on the internet do not click on anything you are not familiar with, immediately ask for my help before continuing. Students must be kind, caring, and respectful while on the internet. Bullying others over the internet will not be tolerated.

Consequences for Breaking the Rules:


1. 2. 3. 4. 5. The first time a student breaks one of the following rules they will receive a warning. The second time a student breaks one of the following rules they will lose three minutes of computer time. The third time a student breaks one of the following rules they will lose five minutes of computer time. The fourth time a student breaks one of the following rules they will lose all computer privileges for the day, and a note will be sent home to their parents/guardians. If a student intentionally harms a computer, a parent will be notified explaining the situation and further punishment will be made.

Plagiarism: When working on the computer or internet, students may not copy others work and use it for their
own. This is called plagiarism and it will not be permitted. If a student plagiarizes, they will earn a zero on the assignment.

Copyright and Fair Use: Any use of documents or articles without authorization is prohibited. All materials
used in the classroom is the property of Salem Elementary School, and are protected by copyright and other intellectual copyright laws. Reproduction of the materials, in whole or in part, in any manner, without the prior written consent of the copyright holder is a violation of copyright law.
