Week 1: Focus on Journeys and Flat Stanley

Lesson: All about my trip Objective: At the end of this lesson students will be able to recall information about a
trip that they have been on to provide details and examples. The students will also be given the opportunity to use technology to aid in presenting their details and examples.

Content Standards:
Social Studies California State Content Standards: A childes place in time and space 1.2 Students compare and contrast the absolute and relative locations of places and people and describe the physical and/or human characteristics of places. 1. Locate on maps and globes their local community, California, the United States, the 7 continents, and 4 oceans. 2. Compare the information that can be derived from a three-dimensional model to the information that can be derived from a picture of the same location. 3. Construct a simple map, using cardinal directions and map symbols. 4. Describe how location, weather, and physical environment affect the way people live, including the effects on their food, clothing, shelter, transportation, and recreation. Writing: W1: Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or name the book they are writing about, state and opinion, supply a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure. W2: Write informative/explanatory texts in which they name a topic, supply some facts about the topic, and provide some sense of closure. Language: L1: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking. a. Print all upper- and lowercase letters b. Use common, proper, and possessive nouns c. Use singular and plural nouns with matching verbs in basic sentences f. Use frequently occurring adjectives g. Use frequently occurring conjunctions L2: Demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard English capitalization, punctuations, and spelling when writing. a.
