Title: Praxis II/Transcript Date: April 2013 Artifact Description: My artifact consists of my Praxis II test scores in which I took

in April of 2013 and a copy of my official transcript from UW-Platteville. The Praxis II was a standardized test that I had to pass to be eligible to graduate. The test was a measurement of my knowledge of my content area and my ability to apply it to real world situations. On my transcript, I highlighted grades I earned in classes for my content area. The highlighted areas include courses in history, sociology, psychology, geography, economic, and political science.

Alignment
Wisconsin Teaching Standard Alignment This experience best aligns with standard one of the Wisconsin Teacher Development and Licensure Standards which states: The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline he or she teaches and can create learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for students. This experience best aligns with standard one because it displays my knowledge of the content area I will be teaching. The combination of my test scores and course grades shows that I am literate in my content area. It shows that I understand major concepts, assumptions, debates, processes of inquiry, and ways of knowing that are central to the disciplines I will be teaching. The mastery of the content allows me to focus more on the students learning experience. After completing these courses and the Praxis II test, I am better prepared to teach multiple subject areas. Because of this, I can create interdisciplinary learning experiences that encourage students to integrate knowledge, skills, and methods of inquiry from several subject areas. With all of the knowledge I have taken away from my classes, I can evaluate teaching resources and curriculum materials for their comprehensiveness, accuracy, and usefulness in representing particular ideas and concepts. This is important because it ensures that I am using the best resources available to me according to appropriateness and accuracy. There is a clear importance of knowing the content in which I will be teaching. UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Statement Alignment This experience best aligns with KSD1.a. of the UWP School of Education Knowledge, Skill, and Disposition statements which states: The candidate displays extensive content knowledge of his/her subject areas and demonstrates a continuing search for new content knowledge, resources, and best instructional practices, while understanding student diversity and student misconceptions and misunderstandings as key to the teaching process. This experience best aligns with this statement because throughout my time at UW-Platteville, I was continually learning the content and how to properly translate it into my classroom. With the knowledge I have gained, I can make sure the students are learning the most important concepts and are able to critically analyze the material. I also know that I must continue to study in my content area to ensure that I am always prepared for any situation or question that arises in my classroom. Secondary Alignment: KSD1.d. Designing Coherent Instruction KSD3.c. Engaging Students in Learnin

Reflection
What I learned about teaching/learning: I learned that there is always more to learn and that learning can be very difficult at times. Even after all of the lectures and presentations I have experienced, I know that there is much more for me to learn about teaching and social sciences. The end of my college career does not signal a stoppage for my learning. To be the best educator for my students, I must continue the learning process on my own. I also learned that learning is very rewarding, and I will relay that to my students as a way to make the content relevant to them. What I learned about myself as a prospective educator: I learned that it is important for me to keep in mind that just because I understand what I am teaching, does not mean the students comprehend what I am saying. I have had multiple experiences in which I struggled to grasp a concept and the teacher moved on quickly. Because of that, I then was a few steps behind the class material. My job is to ensure that every student is learning at a high level and understands there is always more to learn.
