BUILDING CHARACTER

ADA1OI/P Ms Lillie

NAME: _____________

LINE: _________________________________________________________
Learning Goal: To use physical character-building techniques to create three

detailed and powerfully expressed characters.

Your task is to create three distinct characters in three completely different situations, all of whom are speaking the same line (above). Part One: You will fill out a character sheet for each character, using full sentences and TONS of detail. PLAN OUT the details of your performance and WRITE THEM DOWN! You will need to describe your SCAPING (where you are, when it is [time period, time of day, etc.]), your CHARACTER (who you are and what you are doing) and your EMOTION for each, give a detailed description of HOW you will show them. Character Sheet Success Criteria: - Detailed description of SCAPING and HOW it will be shown - Detailed description of CHARACTER and HOW it will be shown - Detailed description of EMOTION and HOW it will be shown - Details chosen are specific to THIS character Part Two: You put together a performance of all three characters. You will enter from offstage in Neutral, move into character, and then return to Neutral between each character. When your third character is complete, you will exit in Neutral. Performance Success Criteria: - Confident and controlled entrance & exit - Specific and controlled Neutral - Lines well memorized and clearly spoken - Clear scaping - Voice connected to character - Physical work (gestures, posture, etc) clearly connected to character - Onstage focus and staying in character

Part Three: You will write me a letter discussing the skills and acting techniques we have gone over in class so far (see Reflection Letter handout).
