TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR NUTS AND BOLTS FOR OVER HEAD

DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS

1.0 SCOPE

The specification given here under covers the manufacture, processing, testing
and supply of various types of nuts and bolts required for erection of structures
and allied works, through this scheme.

2.0 Applicable Standards

Unless otherwise modified in the specification the RSJoists (H Beam) shall
comply with Indian Standard Specification IS: 2062. Gr. A for Dimensions IS 808
Modified up to date shall apply.

3.0 General Technical Particulars : NUTS AND BOLTS

Bolts and nuts shall confirm to the latest edition of IS-1363, IS-1367, IS-2614, and
IS-12427. The mechanical properties shall confirm to class 8.8 and 5.6 for bolts and
class 5 for nuts.
The bolt heads and nuts shall be locked in approved manner. The threads in nuts and
tapped holes shall be cut after galvanizing and shall be well lubricated or greased. All
other threads shall be cut before galvanizing. The bolt threads shall be under cut to
take him care of increase in diameter due to the galvanizing.

Spring washer shall confirm the latest edition of IS3063, IS6821, and IS1586 and
shall be electro galvanized in accordance with IS- 1573 (1986) service condition IV
Plain washer shall confirm to IS-2016.

The thickness of plain washers and spring washers for various sizes of bolts shall be as
follows.

4.0 Galvanizing:
a) Before galvanizing the nuts, bolts, washers shall be thoroughly cleaned of any
paint grease, rust, scale acid/alkali or such other foreign matters which are likely
to face the interference with the galvanizing process or the quality and durability
of Zinc Coating.
b) All the nuts, bolts, washers shall be hot dip galvanized confirming to IS-5358.
Spring washers shall be electro- galvanized in accordance with IS-1573(1986)
service condition IV. Excess spelter from nuts, bolts shall be removed by
centrifugal spinning. Rethreading of bolts after galvanizing shall not be done,
however the tapping of nuts can be done, provided it shall not cause appreciable
recking of the nuts on bolts.
c) The Zinc used for galvanizing shall be of grade of Zn-98 (% of zinc > 99.5%) as
per IS-209.
d) The galvanized surface shall consist of continuous and uniformly thick coating of
zinc, firmly adhering to the surface of steel. The finished surface shall be clean
and smooth and shall be from defects like discoloured patches, bare spots,
unevenness of coating etc. The presence of any such type of defects on visual or
microscopic inspection shall be liable for rejection of material.
e) The galvanized material shall withstand for one minute dips in standard copper
sulphate solution as per IS - 2633.

4.1 Inspection:

The inspection may be carried out by the purchaser prior to the dispatch of material. The
successful bidders shall grant free access to the purchaser’s representative at his works
for material Inspection. Inspection and acceptance of the material under this specification
by the purchaser shall not relieve the supplier of his obligation of furnishing the material
In accordance with the specification and shall not prevent subsequent rejection if the
material is found to be defective.

The supplier shall keep the purchaser informed in advance, about the manufacturing
program so the arrangement can be made for inspection. The purchaser reserves the right
to insists for witnessing the acceptance/ routine testing of the material.

5.0 Tolerance:

As per IS1825 conforming to the latest version of Indian standards specification.

6.0 SCHEDULE

The tenderer shall fill in the following schedules which are part and parcel of the tender
specification and offer If the schedules are not submitted duly filled in with the offer, the
offer shall be liable for rejection

Schedule ‘B’ Schedule of Deviations

Schedule ‘C’ Tenderer’s Experience.

Schedule ‘D’ Schedule of Deviations from specified standards.

Schedule ‘E’ Deviation from specified test requirements.


The deviations from the specification shall be brought out in the schedule of deviations
(Schedules ‘B’, ‘D’, & ’E’). Unless otherwise brought out specifically by the tenderer in
the schedules of deviations (Schedules ‘B’, ‘D’, & ’E’), the items offered shall be deemed
to conform to all clauses of the specification. The discrepancies if any between the
specification and the catalogs or literatures submitted as part of the offer by the bidder
shall not be considered as valid deviations and no representations in this regard will be
entertained unless these are specifically brought out in the schedule of deviation as stated
above.
