Method 4 The driving/walking method The first symbol tells you what direction your car is facing + is north , - is south The second symbol tells you if you are driving forward or reverse So (+8) x (-12) = -96 could be thought as: you are facing north(+) for 8 trips, driving in reveres for 12km each trip for total of 96 km towards the south (-) (-8) x (-12)= you are facing south (-) and are driving 8 trips of 12km in reverse (-) which you will end up 96 km further north Practice Symbolically Tiles (groups)
