The main difference between a spring jar and an oil jar is that with the oil jar you

do not know when it will fire.Depending on temp of the well and the oil vis cosity these have an impact on the delay that the oil jar will fire. With a spri ng jar the firing point is a predetermined load set at surface so the you know w hat over pull that the jar is going to fire at. Deviation can have an effect on both types of jar but the hydraulic jar can stil l fire even at low pull loads whilst the spring jar would not fire if the predet ermined load was not achieved. Bowen oil jars are susceptible to gassing up in gas wells and can cause problems when trying to jar down . In most spring jars if the latch mechanism fails it t urns the jar into a tubular jar with the jar rod being able to free stroke up an d down. When fishing my preference is towards a spring jar as I know what the setting of the jar is and can work the wire and tool string to a point below the jar setti ng. This is beneficial during wire fishing as I can work the fishing tool string to try and break the fished wire further downhole to try and maximise recovery. Well none of the comments I read answered your question? The benefits of a hydraulic jar are that you can use speed of the winch to set t hem to go off, at a lower or higher tension! Spring jars go off at their setting, unless they a badly maintained! If not stri pped, cleaned and oiled/greased they will not give you the desired jarring actio n, at the set tension! Also, remember that the spring jar setting is at the tool down hole! Not the surface tension on your Martin decker! You must calculate wh at your tension is at the tool string!!!! I can't emphasise that enough!!! The negatives with hydraulic jars are temperature effect! High temperature will effect there overall performance! Denser oil can be used to combat temperature e ffect, but it takes several runs in the hole to understand your Well characteris tics! There are pluses and minuses for both jars, and I have to say that respond ers should be educational rather than giving negative comments! We all have to l earn!! If you want a one on one I can advise!
