Unit Goals and Objectives:

Students will learn and use critical thinking and problem solving skills through creating a graphic organizer. Students will learn how to successfully critique a work of art. Students will be able to discern what is important and useful in their research, and include it in their artist reports. Productivity and accountability will be exhibited through students' use of time and response to due dates, and assignments. Initiative and Self-Direction will be shown through students' investigation and reports.

Unit Summary:

Students will research two artists of their choice. They will have to report on the biography of the artist, the artists' works, and influences. After researching both artists and using compare and contrast methods to come to a conclusion, the student will choose one artist as the "winner", hence the name Artist Standoff. When the entire class is finished with their reports the next step is the presentation of their work. Here they will share to the class the lives and works of both artists and why they chose one over the other in the end. This will expose the students to a multitude and variety of artists throughout history and around the world.
