School Lunch Across the USA is about celebrating the regional flavors, ingredients, and traditions from across the country. The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) encourages culinary diversity from various regions, while still meeting strict federal nutrition standards for school meals. Students can enjoy local favorites with the right balance of fruits, vegetables, grains, protein, and milk with every meal. Encouraging your kids to eat school lunch can: Provide kids with healthy choices that help them learn how to assemble a well-balanced meal Provide meals that are age appropriate portions there is no super-sizing in school cafeterias Help students meet their nutritional needs as school lunches provide one-third of the Recommended Dietary Allowances of protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A, vitamin C, and calories. Provide meals that are based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, meaning that less than 30% of calories are from fat, with no more than 10% of calories from saturated fat, and levels of trans fat are reduced Expose kids to many new healthy foods School meals are a great way to inspire your kids to learn about the diverse cultures in our community and across the country.
