At the point of starting the voting sub-unit, students will have been exposed to different roles of elected officials. Part of the text book has been read to the class, which includes information about general rules about voting. The significance to the voting sub-unit will be having the students become a part of a process that will have an impact on their adult lives. A variety of topics will accompany the focus on voting. Appropriateness for Students Famous literary characters are pre-chosen to be the candidates running for the class representative. Alignment with National, State, and Local Standards LG1 Alignment to Standards: Missouri GLEs: LG1 will meet a couple of the GLE social studies standards. LG2 Alignment to Standards: NCSS: LG2 aligns with Thematic Standard A.3 which states that the study of people, places, and environments will also help to promote learners capabilities to make informed and critical decisions.
