My Writing Reflection Looking back on my writing assignments, I noticed a certain pattern that I seem to go by.

It has even become a habit. I sit and stare at my paper for some time gathering my thoughts, and after some time, I pour all of my thoughts onto my paper until my hand starts to cramp or I run out of time in class. Usually, it happens when I am typing a paper. I could start off with a couple e amples, such as the time I wrote Literacy is !ower. Upon hearing of the other essay topic, which had something do with video games, my interest turned to the power of literacy. It was a hasty decision, and was acted more on impulse rather than logic. "he same thing happened when I wrote my #daptation paper $Literacy Memoir%, in which I thought that if I wrote emotionally rather than logically and factually, I would appeal to the reader and in turn not be &udged on my mistakes. I bet if I look back to these two assignments, I could improve a lot on my wrilting skills based on what I observed. 'ne of (ilvia (cribner)s metaphors for literacy is *literacy as power*. (he knew that literacy improves the individual, but her +uestion was does increased literacy have the power to cause social and,or political change- Well this +uestion very much appealed to me. I should start of by telling you where this is coming from. 'ne of our earlier assignments was to choose one essay topic and discuss it, as well as break the topic down. 'ur choices were Roger .bert talking about video games in the form of art or (ilvia (cribner with ))literacy as power.)) It was an easy grade, considering there was no word minimun re+uired. I decided to go with (ilvia (cribner, because I believed in the message she was trying to get across. .ven though her message was in a form of a +uestion, it made the reader reali/e the true potential of literacy and what could be

acomplished from it. 0owever, I did not consider what the reader would look for in the paper. I wrote purely on what literacy meant to me1 there was no actual research done. I feel as if I focused more on reaserch and factual information rather than what I knew from the media, the tone would of been different as well as more informing. 'ur literacy memoir assignment, which I refer to as my #daptation paper, is another e ample of my habit to rush into getting something done. In this case, however, I feel as though my emotion form of writing actually got my point across. Unlike the previous assignment, there was a 234 page re+uirement and the instructions were to upload it to moodle instead of bringing in a hard copy. In this paper, I felt more rela ed and did not feel the need to be factual. I wrote about my past, and how the three languages I came to know related to my ease with literacy. "here was still that rush I felt with writing other papers, because in my head I had so many thoughts of what I wanted to say that it seemed impossible to get it down without confusion. 'n top of that, I knew what my message was to the audience was and I took pleasure in wrtting my e periences with literacy. 0ere was first .nglish class in college and its already taught me so much before it was even half way over. I went from a set stern mood of common high school .nglish classes, to a rela ed setting of a college .nglish class. 5uring our in3class3writting, I do not feel rushed, but instead encouraged to use my imagination in my writting. "his course has even taught that revision is more important than writting because in writting we can &ust let our ideas flow without it affecting the reader. We can write what we want for as long as we want, as long we present our work with proper revisions. My understanding of writting has changed in this sense, because I was never motivated to have fun when

e pressing my ideas onto essays. 'verall, my ways of writting and even reading at times have changed dramaticaly. 6ow, I take time with my writting and let my imagination carry me away. 0aving said that, I still remember the importance of revision.
