Responsibilities as a Teacher:
Who is identified as an exceptional pupil? Students who have behavioral, communicational, intellectual, physical or multiple exceptionalities, may have educational needs that cannot be met through regular instructional and assessment practices. They may be formally identified by as exceptional by an IPRC and have their needs met through accommodations, or a modified educational program. What is a special education program? A Special Education program is a program based on and modified by continuous assessment and evaluation and includes a plan containing specific outcomes and an outline of educational services that meet the needs of the exceptional student. o The Renfrew County District School Board celebrates the unique contributions of each individual and cultivates an environment that values imagination and innovation. Our Door is Always Open: Rockwoods Resource Teacher is available to at any time to collaborate with Teachers and Educational Assistances, providing support or information regarding students with special needs.
Role as Teacher
Identification & Appropriate Action:
Identification of Special Needs Students: Consult with parents, school staff or professionals on the possibility of a student having special needs
Keep observational notes on students progress The student will be assessed, & an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) will be developed by an Identification, Placement and Review Committee (IPRC) Appropriate Action: Involve parents & other professionals in the development, implementation, monitoring & evaluation of IEP Document student progress & provide feedback to parents Update the IEP Provide teacher assistants with directions regarding roles & responsibilities for implementing programming
