Rationale ! In my classroom it would be important to have traditional and authentic forms of assessment.

I believe this is necessary to make sure that I could assess both the lower order thinking skills (knowledge, understanding and application) as well as the higher order thinking skills (analysis, synthesis and evaluation), both of which are important to have as students need to build up their skills from the lowest to highest. ! Traditional Assessment is a type of assessment where the students recall information to complete a test. Teachers ask, and the students simply answer. Quizzes, tests and exams are all traditional forms of assessment. I plan to use traditional assessment to conrm that students have learned all of the lower order thinking skills. These tests are important because traditional forms of assessment are used to see if students meet provincial standards (e.g. EQAO, literacy testing) and they need to understand how to write these kinds of tests properly. ! Authentic Assessment is a form of assessment where students perform tasks that are related to real world situations and are given control over how they choose to interpret them. They are more advanced then traditional assessments. Classroom presentations, interviews and response journals are all forms of authentic assessment. I plan to use authentic assessment in my classroom to make sure that the students in my classroom are gaining the higher order thinking skills and not only the lower ones. Authentic assessment is also a good way of measuring students" ability because it gives them choice and choice is motivating for students. ! In the next section of this package you will nd sample tests, response examples to these tests and a marking scheme used to give an example of a traditional style test. After that, you will see an example of a culminating task, a level four example of this task and a marking scheme in the form of a rubric.
